I was a realtor in fort lauderdale in the early 80's. Landlords had to provide heat, but not A/C. I do believe that since then, A/C must also be provided. Remember, in the northern parts of fl. it freezes every year, hence the need for heat.

As of 5 years ago a/c was not a legal requirement as I remember discussing it with a former landlord.
About a month ago I Googled it and it appears it is still not legally required in Florida.
Only heat is required.

that is correct, only heat is required to be provided by landlord not AC.

And you cannot use your last months rent or security deposit as current due rent, and a landlord can evict someone in Florida within 3--4 weeks for non payment . Tenants cannot withhold payment due to ac not working . for a tenant to fight the eviction they would need to deposit all the monies that landlord claims is due or courts will reject the tenants argument and landlord will win case automatically .

Thank god Florida is not one of those northern ultra liberal states that takes months to get a tenant out, here is it weeks

Never thought of this but you are so right!
What a completely different state it would be if the free loaders could mess with landlords too.
(I don't mean the OP - I mean in general.)
