I currently live and work in downtown Miami, and my husband has just got a job in West Palm Beach. We are very excited for him, but living in South Florida already, we're also very aware of how horrendous traffic can be.

Can anybody who commutes the dreaded I-95 corridor provide some advice as to a place in between the two cities that would minimize our time spent in our cars? His hospital job will require him to go in for set 12-hour shifts at least 5 days per week, while my 9-5 job lends some flexibility to shift hours (ie 7-3 or 10-6) and to work from home up to 2-3 days per week.

I also have to mention that it is not an option for me to leave my job, or for him to reconsider the new opportunity in WPB - its his medical residency and we're just thankful he was able to match in Florida! Any helpful advice that doesn't include telling me we're crazy will be much appreciated :-)

Delray is where you'll incur the least amount of traffic for your situation. At least for your husband, you'll still run into traffic heading South but any further north you're looking at a very long commute.
12 hour shifts he should only hit traffic one way though.

I would second the Delray-Boynton area as a good option for commuting to West Palm. As for yourself, commuting to Miami, have you considered Tri-Rail? I would think that it would lend itself fairly well to a a fixed-schedule, 9-to-5 work day.
