What's the history behind that town? I get the impression it was former slave plantation. It seemed that more than half the area was dedicated to growing sugar cane.

I googled it but found nothing.
You have got to be kidding me!!!! "i get the impression it was former slave plantation" What kind of racist, inconsiderate person would say something like that? I assume you just swiftly drove through Pahokee, without really driving through the whole city because if you were to do that, then you would plainly see that....yes some places are bad, and some are beautiful. Have you ever went atop the Hoover ****? There's a beautiful marina overlooking the lake with Palm trees, rocks, nice buildings and lawns....great for fishing or boating. Or why don't you ride down bacom point rd and see all the big and small beautifully kept houses, with well maintained manicured lawns. How about east main street, or Larrimore road...all these places look great. But no, you, and all these other stuck up outsiders who don't live here judge the whole city on one or two areas you've seen. I can't stand when people talk about our city and make these crazy comments on this site like we don't know what our city looks like. I admit that there's alot that needs to be done to the city to beautify it even more fully. And I love Pahokee, and the surrounding cities as well. You couldn't pay me a million dollars to live on the coast, because if I happen to end up missing over there, no one would probably even notice, better yet care. We are a close knit family here in the glades, everyone knows everyone, and cares for eachother. We are very hospitable. You would know that if you just get out the car....we would greet you right away, even those boys with dreads and golds.....yes they may look intimidating to you but we all have in us this southern hospitality. There is a huge difference between just stating what you saw, and being just plain rude. Your comments were rude and out of line. But wait......we're supposed to be the rude people here in the glades! Practice what you preach, and stop judging a book by it's cover.....if you know what I mean. I LOVE PAHOKEE, and those BLUEEEEEEEEEEEE DEVILLLLLLLLSSSSSS!!! MUCK PRIDE!!!!!!

Oh by the way, if it was a Friday night, then chances are people are either going to or coming from a home football game, watching the magnificent Pahokee Blue Devils, and the O.D. Express Marching band. 3 years in a row state champions. That's something we really care about in the glades too, if you care to know!

hey timthff, you really need to GET A LIFE! If where you stay is so great, then why are you wasting your time bashing our's? Shouldn't you be out living the good life, playing golf, or whatever you coastal people do for fun? You really must be a really insecure person, if you have to tear the city of Pahokee down and it's residents to make yourself and your town look good. Once again....GET A LIFE!
MUCK PRIDE!!!
