My just bought a condo in Century Village, Boca. The electric panel is original and will need to be updated.
She hasn't closed yet. I am trying to get an idea of the price to update. We heard conflicting prices at the time of looking and if anyone is familiar with CV and has done it, can you share your electrician and price.

Thank you.
Is it an existing fuse panel or does it have breakers? I can't imagine a breaker panel needing replacement so soon.
From what the inspector told me, it is original from 1981. He said the company who made it is no longer in business and if the fuse should go, there isn't any replacements and that it would be a good idea to replace the whole thing.
The electrical panels manufactured by two different companies have been a known problem in CV for years. They are potential fire hazards and replacement is recommended but not required. You will see units listed for sales advertising that they have new electrical panels. I have seen the panels and the breaker switches are undersized by todays standards. As such, you likely cannot get insurance if you have those panels. If you want to get a price, get one of their CV newspapers, some are even online and call one of electrician to get a ballpark figure.
I will see if I can get the CV paper on line and start making calls. The inspector did mention that too about potential fire hazard. I don't want to take any chances. And insurance is important too.
I just want to get my mom set up properly before I had back north after the closing.
Is it a federal pacific? I've seen those need to be replaced due to a very small percentage of them causing fire issues. I remember a quote of around $1,250 but that was awhile ago.
Skylinet - Yes it is Federal Pacific. I'm hoping that the price will be less than that. I will make some calls to electricians and get estimates. Thank you for your info.
