I assume you mean Boca Raton, and let's leave aside residence permit questions, if applicable.

Boca Raton was certainly in the middle of the housing bubble, but prices have come down significantly in the past year or so. Single family homes - 3 beds, 2 bath with garage - now start at around $200,000, though of course the upper end can go as high as you can imagine.

Most neighborhoods in Boca Raton are family friendly, though they say that the best schools are in central Boca, probably zip code 33131, maybe 33432 and a few others. The other Boca Raton zip codes are 33487 33498 33496 33434 33433 33486 and 33428. Probably the best real estate link is REALTOR.com - Real Estate Listings & Homes For Sale, which is basically the public multiple listing service (MLS).

The Boca Raton economy certainly does feature IT, as well as telecommunications, and accounting jobs. There are sites for headhunters, and you can focus on Boca Raton, but I can't provide any specific links right now, though it shouldn't be difficult to tap into the information flow using a basic search engine like Google.

Good luck!

So what is your point of moving then? No one is going to hire you unless you are a day worker working out on the fields pruning palm trees. If you think you can work for dollars per day and make due, you then can team up with a bunch of families in one house and have a go of it.

Seriously, to uproot your life from Canada and give up good jobs and free healthcare there and then to try to beat the system is really a bad idea.

If you do manage to get a "job" and are caught working illegally you will be deported and lose the right to enter the USA for 10 years.

Better to stay on your side and have nice vacations in Florida.

Unless you make your living online being self-employed you're going to have a heck of a hard time trying to support kids.

I moved here with my spouse Sunday before last (from Chicago) and we've spent roughly 25K in cash on the move, not including for the residence...

Moving that far will get very costly.

Good luck.

Boca Raton is a wonderful place to live but having a job is very important especially with children. It is wise to think this through before moving.

I'm not sure about East Boca (which is the actual city limits of Boca Raton.). But West Boca is a pretty nice area. Though, as someone who grew up in the same house the last 20 years, I can say that you must be a smart parent out here.

Also -- be aware that the city (the Boca Raton Pd, city officials..Mark Foley) of Boca Raton is CORRUPT! Do your research on that and stay aware.

Think of it this way. In Brooklyn, you can have the projects on one corner and one corner down an upscale apartment complex. Down in South Florida, it's the same idea, but just a more spread out basis. For example, I live off Lyons Road. Go down south about ten miles in to Oakland Park and it turns in to 31st Ave..big difference.
