Default Just put a deposit on a townhome in Boynton Beach HELP!! Is it a bad area?

My parents just went to Florida and have been looking for a beach house that we can get away to when we have the spare time. They have found a 3 bedroom 3 bath townhome in Boynton Beach and the price is pretty good 190,000. Only thing we are concerned with is the crime rate and gangs. We are from New Jersey its my mother father, and 3 older brothers. We aren't planning on starting a family here just having a beach house for once in a while, possibility of me and my older brother moving there and getting jobs in Miami.

My mother heard about the gangs / crime and is trying to get my father to get back his deposit he put on this townhome. Do you guys see this as being a really big issue to the point where we should find another area to relocate to? Do you think within the next few years Boynton Beach will be like Camden, NJ or Compton etc. and housing prices will drop substancially? We have heard mixed reviews which is not good to hear. Please help so my family doesn't make a huge mistake and waste a substancial amount of money.

It all depends on the location. We don't need the exact address, but knowing what major roads the property is near would help. Without that, I'm not sure how much help we could provide.

Gangs in Boyton are a HUGE problem ESPECIALLY on the beach. In fact almost nowhere in Florida is safe - that's why people are fleeing in droves. Soon only criminals will live here.....

<sarc off>

people need to man up if you're scared to live in Boyton Beach the rest of your life is going to be a miserable experience...

My oldest brother is trying to get a cop job possibly in Boynton, which would be a plus. But we aren't scared gangs or things like that, its my mother we worry about, she heard about the gangs and crimes in Boynton as of recently and is worried that its going to get worse. Mostly are just looking for a quiet area where we can relax and not have to worry daily about crimes and stupid gang members running around gang-bangen lol. My parents are in the area of Boynton right now, and they said it "looks" like a really nice area, but they don't know about the lifestyle. It is a little west of 95 they told me, not too sure where in location to streets but it is a new townhome being built its not yet finished.

Boyton is not on the top crime list......if you want to talk about crime, Dallas is SIGNIFICANTLY worse. Quite frankly, there is crime EVERYWHERE in the US and no city is immune.

Well, from some of the opinions of people of this area they say its going way down hill etc. BUT - there are supposively nice areas, but it only seems to be small sections are nice, and then there are areas people say stay away from. Where I am from in NJ, our town is relatively safe, the town over from us is very bad with lots of crimes etc, but it doesn't affect our town. So no I am not afraid of gangs etc because they are only a town over from me, but I just don't want it so bad that its affecting our daily lives.

I know north Boynton, east of 95 has changed over the years. I think I would rethink
the whole area. We rented and owned in Boynton over a 15 year period, I wouldn't
do it today, enough said ????

Stay away from Boynton Beach. YES...it is bad. Lots of shootings and gang related stuff. Don't believe me ? Go to South Florida Sun-Sentinel: Broward, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade news, sports, jobs, cars and real estate -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com and type in Boyton Beach in the search area and you will see all the articles on this horrible city over the past few months. Shootings in the mall during Christmas ? I mean sheez.

Wow who would've thought a home located near the beach would be in a 'bad' area. Well I hate to admonish anyone but I would suppose this is the reason why a person should visit an area before making any commitments. But look on the bright side- if you guys cannot get the deposit back, then at least you can still use the home for vacations but you don't have to spend the majority of your time just in that city. Visit other places while you're down there.
