Crime is extremely high in Palm Beach County. 100+ murders says the newspaper that I read this morning! Another reason I cant wait to move out, I dont feel safe in my city with all those murders going on! City-data puts my city at 900+ for crime index! We are like 50th in America for "most dangerous city" and we are almost dangerous enough to be in the top 10! I would not recommend anyone moving to any city with a crime index of over 400 or so. Ideally you want under 200 crime index.

You can get some protection if you live in a gated guarded community and minimal protection in a gated(but unguarded) community. But once you leave your house to shop or go to work, anything can happen. There have been drive by shootings, drunk drivers, big drug problem, robbery, burglary, mugging, etc. I am showing my parents the news and hope they move out for their safety. I know im moving out for many reasons, safety being a big reason.

Most of the crime seems to be gang or drug related, yes there is the occasional "not-gang-related" incident some of which are still unsolved, the PB Post had a story sometime ago. I avoid downtown after certain hours of the night. The homeless guy who robbed a group of people and raped the females as he made them drive around downtown before being captured, none were killed but the scarring from the incident is unimaginable. It happened after 2:00 AM in the morning, not that I would be down there but still makes you wonder. City Place is full of riff raff and gang bangers, the police presence is evident but I wonder how well when those fight videos were made without little trouble. The latest Boynton Beach Mall Xmas Eve Shooting was Gang related, luckily no innocent bystanders were hurt.

To say there isn't a lot of shady business going on in Palm Beach County is an understatment. Yes there are plenty of rich retired people living in PB County, most are of a certain age, but when you see young 20 or 30 somethings driving around in the middle of the afternoon in a 7 series BMW or GM Tahoe with 22" rims or better yet spinners and the crooked baseball hat with the lean it makes you wonder.

Palm Beach is VERY segregated. Once you cross the bridge- West Palm- and probably not safe after 10 PM. How great is it- to have areas so racist and segregated? seems like how L.A. and Santa Monica drew gangs there- people are angry and crime escalates....

Palm Beach "County" is different than areas like Riviera Beach and the crap part of West Palm Beach where these drug murders and crimes occur. Look at the victimzation profiles (who is getting murdered) to understand that you probably do not fit the victim profile (young, poor black men) and get on with it.

I lived four years in Jupiter and never felt more safe anywhere.

Anyone can be a victim but dealing with drugs and gangs is more likley to make you a victim. My moms car got broken into before and we had a burglary in my gated neighboor. Nowhere is safe. Ill be moving to a low crime city/town with about a tenth the crime of WPB

I just spent some time with a co-worker who retired to Singer Island (north end of Palm Beach) and drove thru WPB. I've gotten pretty good a quickly sizing up an area. When I see pawn shops, get your checks cashed here and other such places I become Very suspect. My friends place has been broken into 4 times in the last 30 months...twice while he was home. Both him and his wife have carry permits and take a loaded weapon with them when they go outside to walk their little dog...

No thanks...not for me

Is the crime just as bad for Palm Beach Gardens, Delray Beach, Boca Raton or Jupitor? I want to move to Palm Beach County but have a young daughter and don't want to be in the middle of gangs.

Certain areas of Delray have problems. Jupiter, Boca, and Palm Beach Gardens are all nice areas.

I just saw a poll for most dangerous metro's in U.S. I found this poll very interesting because it not only rates the crime rate of the city itself but the entire metro. Which I think is important especially in SoFlo where the major cities make up like 20% of the county. So of course Detroit was of course on top. Miami actually was 3rd probally keep in mind it includes Opa Locka and Miami Gardens. Palm Beach county was ranked 13th just above Philly! First off I found this weird because Palm Beach County is in the same metro as Miami but I guess maybe they were going by the metro in the county. But it's no wonder why it's ranked so high because of Riviera Beach and Lake Worth. The city West Palm however has been improving as a whole. Two years ago it was ranked 14 most dangerous city(not metro) and I think it was the murder capital of Florida that year(not to sure though). So as the city gets better but the sourrounding neighborhoods get more worst. So of course if you live close to these neighborhoods is't the price you pay.
