Someone is paranoid....
You must be paranoid then. Everyone that I know has kids and they love the area and no one knows anyone that has been a victim of crime. If you can't wait to leave then where do you want to leave to? Are you trying to sell your house? I live in Parkland now, which is supposed to be so low crime. In my neighborhood we have had loads of vandalism and attempted break ins including my house.

If you check the crime rates though they are equally bad:

The reason I think Lantana is worse is because Boynton has nicer suburban areas that Lantana doesn't have. Also it looks better than Lantana west of I-95.
Both are a 7 out of 10.

Parkland is a 2 out of 10 on the crime scale.
Boynton Beach is a 7.
Big difference there.

Big difference on the crime scale, but you also have to look where all the crime is taking place. If you compare West Boynton with Parkland the crime rate is very close. Parkland is all west. East Boynton is where a huge majority of the crime is. Plus Parkland does not have the retail that you have in Boynton so that also comes to play when looking at crime statistics.

Ummm yeah, great. How many folks can afford to live on Palm Beach Island and let the Quadrille bridge and intracoastal buffer them from the blight that is WPB? And I should know. I used to work in the Gov't offices at 310 S. Olive. In the Palm Beaches, you want to be rich enough to live on the Islands (preferably Jupiter, as the hood isn't dead west of you) or have the $$$ for a gated community.

This is crucial. My parents had a house in Jupiter Farms... Never had a breakin. I built in the Royal Palm Acreage, with bad areas to the east. 5 breakins in 2 years.
If you are going to live in the Palm Beaches you want to be north of PGA Blvd. (Assuming you have the wealth to make it so.)

No doubt. Get to the north end of the county if you can. My classmate Barry Grunow was shot dead being a teacher in Lake Worth. Stay north of PGA Blvd. if you can. (The old line used to Northlake Blvd. Years before that it was maybe Park Avenue. But Riviera Beach keeps growing.)
Saddens me to see my home town go this way.

I keep getting re-routed to different web sites when looking. We have 2 small kitties and one pittie. She's a lover, not a fighter, and runs from the vaccum when I clean. She's not a barker either.( she's 8 yrs old) I am so ready to just go! What about smaller towns around this area? Seems where I was looking at, for rental, was right across the street from the mall! Not too good! Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am early 50's , my Mom would be coming and my oldest son, 27, not a partier, but ex-Army. I have my BA in Criminal Justice and will be going for my Masters in Psych, so I am not a slouch. (just in case someone knows of a rental) Thanks! brat242 aka Liz

Well, I can relate to how Sacramento looks. Flew up there for an interview with HP in Roseville. Very depressing looking place.
I'm from the area you are thinking of. Some of my hometown friends say "PBG is the place to be these days". But the northward encroachment of bad elements has taken at least up to Northlake Blvd. Who knows how far north it will go?
I'd say stay North of PGA Blvd. if you can. Consider Abacoa if you like "New Urban" style communities.
Go for Juno, Jupiter or Tequesta or of course Jupiter Island if you can afford it.
Even then, I often wonder, "If I could get employment sufficient to live in the areas I mention, what good is it? You have to stay in the north end of the county to avoid the blight, and the blight doesn't stay put?"
As an example, I once lived in Summerlin, a "nice" area of Las Vegas. Canyon Gate country club bordered my property. I was in a smaller gated place. My motorbike was stolen 2 days after I brought it home. Car broken into in a theft attempt. Even with a gate and a guard.
So as always, the proximity of bad elements should play into your decision. Gates and guards aren't enough. Heck they may even be letting the bad guys in, in Vegas, based on my experiences.
If you do go to the north end, avoid the Limestone Creek and Kennedy Estates areas.

Palm Beach County, Florida - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://www.city-data.com/forum/los-a...89-valley.html
For all the towns in PBC can someone indicate areas in blue are some of the best, areas in green have some nice areas and some not so nice areas. Areas in red are mostly "stay away" areas (like a poster did in the LA forum, re: San Fernando Valley, please reference above links). This should "expand upon" our current thread...Thanks.

Actually, Coral Springs has the same amount of retail as Boynton Beach yet the crime rates are dramatically lower. So your theory doesn't work out there.
Also, a few months ago there was a gang stabbing in a West Boynton shopping center and a bank robbery in West Boynton as well.
I have not heard of anything like this in Parkland. Parkland is the safest city I've seen in South Florida, period.
