Some of Lake Worth is bad. A lot of it is not.

College Park, Parrot Cove in Eastern Lake Worth are very nice areas.

Man, you all really don't know what a ghetto is.

I've seen Lake Worth & yeah it's a little rough around the edges, but not what I'd consider a ghetto.

Check out East St. Louis, IL if you want to see what a real ghetto is.

i don't get the big deal

seems to get a bad rep for nothing. i'd say just about anywhere besides the far end of the south side is safe to walk around alone at night. down on the south side around 12th ave south you might have some problems if you're not known around there, but that's still just a 'might.' i've been down there at night alone and nothing's happened to me. but the rest of lake worth is a pretty safe neighborhood which just happens to have lots of immigrants and lower income residents.

the crime in lake worth is mostly drugs and prostitution, with some petty robbery sprinkled in. it's not like its some war zone with gangsters mowing people down night after night.

although nowadays i'd advise staying off the streets at night. not because of gangsters though, becuase of the cops. ever since the merger they have been militant about stopping people and searching them for no reason. unless of course you enjoy being frisked, in which case be my guest.

What about the Lake Charleston area? Is it actually part of Lake Worth? And if so, is it a really bad area?

i've lived here most of my life and i've honestly never even heard of lake charleston. but i googled it and it seems nice (expensive).

Lake Charleston Community Information - Boca Raton Real Estate - Boca Raton Florida

from the sound of it, it's probably out west somewhere miles from the actual town of lake worth that everyone is referring to. there's a lot of places out west that are listed as lake worth that are no where near the town, this is probably one of them. a really bad area? i really doubt it at that price.

and don't let people spook you. lake worth aint that scary.

Where did you get your facts? Thats not even possible. POVERTY STRICKEN?! Wrong. I was in lake worth saturday night, and lake worth is far from being 75 to 90 % poverty stricken. Pahokee is 30% poverty stricken, and its WAAAAAAAAY more dangerous, delapitated, and ignored by the county. Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowed

TRUE!
But, I grew up in WPB, my grandparents owned 2 places in the heart of Lake Worth, we went there all the time. It was an ART DECO paradise!!
In the 90's their old neighborhood was overrun by gangs and violence, I was scared to drive by the old house. (and at the time I lived in Miami, and had been to Liberty city, "S" ave in Riviera, etc.)
I last visited in 2002, it was pure HELL by comparison to what I remembered in the 80's. what a shame. the downtown was surprisingly nicer than I had remembered it, but as soon as you went off the main drag, it was not so nice.
It's a shame that the city has allowed such downfall. I am glad my gp's have passed, they would have been saddened to see this happen.

Angry Lake Worthless

Hello all.
I grew up in Lake Worth-moved there in 1975 as a young child. I remember being able to play in the front yard at night as long as we wanted (or as long as our Parents would let us.) But then in the 80's things really changed. Drug dealers everywhere on the south end, where my Parents still live in the same home to this day.
You still see the same crap-except now the dealers are on bikes. Yes, Lake Worth is a very poor city. A lot of absent landlords that allow the property to become very run down. Now, this economy does not help a bit. Funny, no one has mentioned Lake Worth Utilities..... You are charged a crazy deposit, (before I moved to GA it was $300.00) and could be even more if the people before you ran up the bill and left. Streets have potholes and are not serviced like they should. The schools are unmentionable-I attended elementary, middle, and high school there, so I know the school system is horrible. There really should be metal detectors!!! (Please remember Mr. Gunrow-Lake Worth Middle School teacher killed by a student.)
There are a lot of "mom and pop" stores in the city, but no real "money maker." It used to be a very, very cute town to live in but no more. It is sad because I was so proud of living in Lake Worth and Graduating from Lake Worth High....but the city is certainly run down.
Just my opinion.....

lake worth has a murder rate of 33 per capita. new york has 7. east st louis has 20. there are 2 or 3 good neighborhoods in the city of lake worth. And yes you can get robbed very easy in any part of the city, and sometimes those robberies turn into murders. I dont care what anybody has to say about lake worth. im there everyday and i know what goes on first hand.
