Moving to Jupiter in a few months for a new entry-level job
Hello, City-Data... as the title indicates, I'm moving to Jupiter for an entry-level job in probably around the April/May/June time period. I am aware that the cost of living there and areas surrounding is quite high, and I've only been to Jupiter/West Palm Beach once (when I interviewed for the job). It will be just me, so could anyone recommend any apartment complexes to live in that are below or around the $500 ballpark?

$500/month will be VERY difficult in Jupiter and Palm Beach County in general for an entry level job.
Anything that cheap will either be older or in a bad area. I hate to say it, but you may have to look to share a place or rent a room. I couldn't even find any listings for Carriage houses in downtown West Palm Beach, which are usually cheaper options for people on limited budgets....

Okay, in your experience, what is the average cost for a 1 BR apartment (in a good area) in the West Palm Beach/Jupiter area?

Yes, I agree, $500/mo will be hard to find, unless it's in terrible shape or in a bad neighborhood. Where are you coming from?

$700 AT LEAST. And when you DO find a listing for a certain price, be sure to run it by us because you never know about an area. Can be real hit or miss.
Here's a place in Juno Beach for 650: http://miami.craigslist.org/pbc/apa/997617466.html

I'm currently in Columbia, SC... where I am paying $400 + utilities to live in a one floor house with 2 other people ($1200 split three ways).

I really appreciate the assistance, by the way. The last thing I want to do is lease a bad place in a bad area.

No problem. As a whole, Jupiter is almost all "good" --- but it does have a couple of small pockets of not-so-good.

Yeah, the corporate office I will be working in is about a fourth mile from the beach; you can actually see the water from the floor I'll be on.
The only problem I have with Jupiter is, like mentioned in the opening post, the cost of living is HIGH.

One more thing for people who live around the Jupiter/West Palm Beach area... can you give a list of the neighborhoods or areas of each city that are considered bad (I.E. not safe)?

In Jupiter, it's the area near Limestone Creek, and just across Indiantown Road there's also a pocket of "bad"
Stay out of Riviera Beach, and the North end of West Palm Beach (North of Banyan Blvd.) unless you're on the water, and stay out of "suburban West Palm Beach" if you can help it.... it's not REALLY a part of West Palm Beach, because it's incorporated, but there's a lot of weirdness out there.
One place you may want to look is the "Villages" in West Palm Beach. It's a generally good area with a lot of young people and a lot of apartment complexes and lower rents than other parts of West Palm.
