I used to live out in the Acreage. Persimmon, Avacodo, etc.. I remember those! Still go out there every once in a while on family get togethers.
When I lived out there, I was just a kid. But back then, almost everyone was white. We used to play outside, go fishing, skipping rocks, riding bikes, etc... it has definitely changed over the yrs. I remember going back and playing some hoops at the local park and almost everyone was Haitian. There also seemed to be a lot more kids involved in gangs to be honest. I wouldnt say it's a bad place to live though, but has it seen better days? I believe so.

Haitian Gangs in the Acreage?! Or any gangs period! How did you know they were in gangs to begin with? What local park out there out there has basketball hoops? Don't get me wrong I knew kids in gangs but they joined else where and I guess you can call them transplant gangsters. The schools I went to in the Acreage were all A+ grade schools. However I didn't attend Seminole Ridge because it wasn't built but I imagine it's an A+ asweel being the same students go there. You really shouldn't have any worries on moving out there it's probally just getting more diverse as time moves on and more people discover the place.

No, not Haitian gangs. I said I remember playing hoops at the park yrs later (by the high school) and everyone was Haitian. I remember when everyone was white.
The gangs? I just remember hearing how bad gangs got out there (no particular race). A friend of mine joined one b/c he was young and stupid. He got out when he wised up, and I remember he was nervous about seeing them again. He stayed out of the front of RPB.

I live out in Loxahatchee and I LOVE IT!!!!
Outside of some folks looking a bit redneck, they are still very friendly and are great people. I think for the most part it is middle class and I choose to not see color, I just see stupid in all races at times.
We enjoy feeling VERY SAFE and enjoy the convenience of close grocery, shops, dining within five minutes for us.
I wouldn't live any other place.
We also have a lot of pets and it works out so well for us.
Best of luck.

Thanks so much everybody! Keep the opinions and observations flowin'!
I have started looking for a short term place for this summer out in the Acreage. Maybe a guest cottage, or something. I think it would be a great way to sample the life, the area and the commute.
20 minutes to WPB in the mornings sound about right? That has traditionally been my max. I hate commuting.
Is it generally quiet, especially on weekends? Seems like the space would attract a lot of 4 wheeler type stuff. Are there any stables there? I know folks have their own set ups, but any boarding stables for lessons/ rentals?
I hear conflicting info about flooding out there. Yes or no?

I don't think you could make it into WPB in 20 minutes from anywhere in the 33470, 33411, 33412 area codes. You would be looking at 18 to 20 miles from this area.
I was laid off in December, my drive in was 18 miles it would take me 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. It was normally 30 minutes.
I would take the back roads to Southern BLVD and drive all the way up.
It was the fastest way from where I lived as I checked every possible route.
Royal Palm Beach BLVD backs up in the mornings and the speed limit is severely reduced for the school zone. Okeechobee is not bad but can bottleneck up when you get into town and you can sit there for 10-15 minutes. I never travel on I-95 but has always looked busy when I would pass by. You can shave some time off ( about 5 miles) I am sure by taking it but you still need to get off of it to get downtown and then you have the bottleneck again.
It is generally quiet all of the time, yes people have their monster trucks, swamp buggies but they tend to go off to the swamp areas to ride them.
There are plenty of horse people ( I am one of them) I board my mare at a terrific place that does offer private Western Riding Lessons for a reasonable price. If you are interested in that PM me and I will provide info for that.
Flooding, well considering the entire area is on a flood plain there is always that chance. I know you have a higher flooding chance in other areas though outside of this area. I certainly don't worry about it.
There is only one downside living here. iI you travel a lot on the back roads ( B,C,D,E,F road) your car gets really dusty. I am moving next week into a different house and I will not have to take those roads anymore to get to my horse and I am glad. I was tired of my brand new car always looking so dirty.
Best of luck!!

Oh crud, that is really stretching my commute tolerance. Any chance there is public transportation to downtown?

Palm tran, but it's waaaaay too inefficient! But, I might ask, why restrict yourself to the Acreage? Looking for lots of land?

It is one option. My boyfriend and like to entertain a lot, and haven't really been able to do so with our current housing. We would love to have big gatherings of folks over regularly.
I guess we are considering how we want to live, and having room to spread out and play seems great. However, an hour and a half every day sitting in the car just isn't a good trade for me. Maybe something closer in that is set up well for having parties would be a better choice.

Are you looking to rent or buy? Check out some of the homes in the downtown WPB neighborhoods (SOUTH of downtown).... some of these places look like they were built with entertaining in mind....mature vegetation, privacy fences, courtyard pools, etc.... They are generally smaller homes, on smaller lots, but what they lack in size they make up for in charm and "neighborhoodness" --- plus you cannot beat a 5 minute commute!
