Vacationing on my own in Lake Worth
Greetings - I'll be visiting Lake Worth in a few weeks for a couple of days. As a woman vacationing alone, I am concerned about safety and things like that. I'll be staying in a rental(not sure what part of town) but it is 6 miles from the airport and about 10 blocks from downtown.
Any thoughts?

10 blocks is a decent walk to downtown LW and you might be going through some rough areas on the way. Might want to consider a cab, or at least a bike. From there you can take the trolley to the beach (I'm assuming the trolley is still around).
Might also want to consider taking a cab to downtown West Palm and CityPlace...

Where in Lake Worth does your friend live? Lake Worth definetely isn't the most desirable place to visit in Palm Beach Co. It's more known for it's gangs than anything so just try to be aware of your sourrondings. Especially around downtown and to the imediate south is the worst. Lake Worth Beach is nice though always went there as a kid. I'm not trying to scare you who knows nothnig will happen to you. But it'll be because to watched your back and read all the post.

Lake Worth doesn't have a Trolley anymore. Downtown (east of Dixie Hwy and all the way to the beach) is nice and people walk around there all the time. Hope you have a nice trip.

visiting lake worth on vacation
I have lived in So. Fla for 22 yrs now. I lived in lake worth most of it. The downtown area has been updated with a lot things to do. There is live entertainment on Fridays. Check the Palm Beach Post for things to do. Yes, Lake Worth has it undesirable areas just like any other city. I should suggest that you stay away from the 6th Ave South Area-12th Ave N. area. (However, I believe that there hardworking people who live there and can say that fear for their safety as well. )There is flea market at the HS on the weekends and you can take the tri-rail to Miami during the day which we have done and you must be careful wherever you are. You can not let "fearmongers"stop you from exploring. There will be good areasand bad areas n Lake Worth as well as West Palm Beach Area. City Place offers Spanish dancing on Friday Nites if that your flavor and live music on Saturday Nites,A trolley car takes from City Place to Clematis Street, Horse Carriage Rides, Cheese Cake Factory.(just to name a few things to do. Again you must always watch you back which is common sense. There are policemen patrolling the areas so no need to WORRRY!!
