Please help save Tri-Rail!
They want to cut weekend Tri-Rail service and cut weekday service by 30 daily trains due to lack of funding. Tri-Rail is funded by Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade, and partially by the State Legislature. However, funding is not secured and if one pulls out (Palm Beach) the other two counties follow, leaving Tri-Rail essentially dead. Over 4.5 million people ride Tri-Rail a year, and is crucial for many to get to work, school, home, etc. Tri-Rail's ridership has also been growing every quarter, and is one of the fastest growing commuter rail systems in the U.S.
Tri-Rail needs to get dedicated funding from the State Legislature to ensure that Tri-Rail's future is secure. Please fill out this 2-second petition to suport funding for Tri-Rail and e-mail your representatives. The more voices, letters, phone calls, signatures, anything, the better. Save Tri-Rail! Thanks guys!

Obviously the Tri-Rail is a sorry excuse for modern transport in a developed country, and the US ruling classes still stubbornly insist on allocating massive resources to gasoline-powered cars and highways, yet it is better than nothing, so I signed the petition anyway.
The US ruling classes should take lessons from their cultural superiors in Japan and Europe: the Tri-Rail should run more often, like every 30 minutes, including weekends, and should feature bullet trains every two hours or so (more often during rush hours), connecting WPB, Boca Raton, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, in a matter of 30 minutes.
Never mind, pull funding and let's allocate more resources, including human lives, to fighting more oil wars, easier to understand, right?

I love Tri-Rail. Their new campaign: "Wish You Were Here" partners with Pollo Tropical and offers a chance to win a free trip to Jamaica and you can download a free $3 coupon to Pollo Tropical. Just go to their site www.tri-rail.com This economy is tough and Tri-Rail is offering a chance to save a ton of money by using them to go to/from work, school etc.

If my husband didn't have his bike stolen from the train while he was on his way to work, he'd still be taking the train.

I ride the Tri-Rail everyday since my Buick started acting up...But the service sucks the only thing Tri-Rail is good at, is making sure the security checks tickets. the train is filthy, its real slow especially on weekends, and jus need alot of improvement.

Well, for those of you interested, Tri-Rail now has a campaign that features a giveaway. You can win a free one-year transit pass. Visit their website: South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) to enter to win. It's called "Go Green and Save!"

All fine and dandy...if the bus would show up when it's supposed to!!! The bus has either not shown up at all or has left the station right as the train that it's supposed to meet is pulling into the station.
And transit people wonder why the the population here love their cars.

Huge
rep pt. added.
Florida Pols again show they will only be happy
when we can rename Florida, Calcutta West.
Developer give-a-ways, more roads, putting zillions
into outdated, painfully bad, autocentric infrastructure
when all quantifiable evidence has shown how flawed
that thought process to be. There is a reason why all more
civil and educated cities /countries have moved away from
this antiquated 60's-Eisenhower era thought process.
There is some hope, I attended some mass trans meetings
in Jupiter and two of the councilmen are rabid Tri-Rail
supporters. Not a lot, but definitely better than none.

Another rant....
I used a bicycle daily for two years, from North Palm into
West Palm and back, and would call the pedestrian/vulnerable
user situation in our area, insanity. Some cars are openly hostile
to bike riders. Im not a spandex poweranger type rider and
keep out of everyones way, too...So its just hate of anything
non-car being on 'their'(?) road. Trying to cross Northlake
and US1 on foot might take 8-10 minutes depending on traffic.
Totally unacceptable that one section of the population has
that kind of hardship built in to their lives by city planners,
zoning boards etc.....People need to understand that making
right-of-way easier for its vulnerable users makes the quality-of-life
in that area better for everyone. Public trans, crosswalks, bike
lanes or enforcement of civility between users goes a long way
toward that.
[/rant]
I better switch to decaf........
