Come see Master Chorale of South Florida. We sing in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Boca. The choir is made up of community members from the tri county area. I hope that's "authentic" enough for everyone here.

Master Chorale of South Florida

There is culture in south Florida. You do have to drive to it. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Edited to add: Do you check out Organiste? http://www.organiste.net/index.php This organization will send you emails on every cultural event in south Florida. Yes-you will have to drive but there is lots of stuff going on the tri county area.

There used to be a decent hardcore/metal culture until they closed down Ray's Downtown Blues on clematis. That place was historic in my mind.
Ray's was awesome. Spanky's could be good too.

Culture is a very subjective thing. The most important thing is that you love the place you live in. If you already have a bias against the place then you will fail to see the beauty in it. I've lived in S. Fl off and on in my life and there is culture around. It may not be like the East Coast or LA, but the culture here is more of a stew where all of come together to make a soup. There are a few vegetables and pieces of meat as stand outs in the stew (e.g. rich people and poor people). In other words, S. Fl is a mixed society for the most part. We're cultural mutts to a degree (e.g. many of us are American with our own culture thrown in). Trying to dissect a mixed society will only mix you up. Out of all the South Fl. counties I've lived in, Palm Beach is my favorite. One more thing, culture also takes place on an organic level with you and the people you associate with. You create your own culture whether you realize it or not. If you solely depend on outside cultural events to stimulate you then you may be the one lacking culture and not bonding with the natives. If PBC is not for you go somewhere else, we have 49 more states and US Territories.
