I live a sheltered life in the SE corner of PBC, it can be done I think we all have our lives touched by crime no matter where we live. My son goes to a little school that serves organic food and stresses respect for the cultures of the world and does not teach to test (although I am looking to stop paying for that ASAP now that he is old enough for public school gifted programs)

But really, why move here unless you have a great job lined up? The beach is great, but most people move here and don't even go to the beach or understand how to enjoy the beach. I personally don't know how I could stand it here if it weren't for the beach and i've lived here all of my life (since the 70's

I moved down here last year with a 3 month old daughter from NYC area so I can relate.

I would really recommend Delray Beach if you are set on being down in South FL or even better North Miami beach. But you asked about PBC so I put Delray Beach first. But if you don't have a job and can move anywhere, definitely North Miami Beach. Both areas are relatively safe. We live in Delray and have never felt unsafe.

It's nice in terms of the beach, weather {exception of Summer} being out of the smog and traffic for your little one. The pace of life in general is very relaxed compared to NYC and the cost of living is cheaper. But NYC is incredible in terms of food, culture, vibe, and just being a live.

Be prepared to pay $15 for Indian food, pizza, and Chinese food which you can get in NYC for like $5. And it doesn't even taste that good. Oh and you definitely need a car. You can not get by down here without one. Public transportation is not as good as it is up in NYC. Buses come once a hour maybe? The only place you can get away with not having a car is South Beach and the prices down there are very comparable to NYC. However it does have that same vibe and energy that NYC has, tropical weather style.

We miss NYC and plan on leaving South FL in couple of years. It's a great place to visit but not live in my opinion.

Do not forget Wellington in Western West Palm Beach County ... that is a safe and beautiful family oriented area as well .

Everything I've read refers to PBC as a cesspool of crime. I may just stay in NY if it's gotten that bad.
Palm Beach Gardens and Boca Raton have excellent schools and are very safe and classy cities.

If you live in northern PBC, in the cities of Jupiter or Palm Beach Gardens, or in south PBC, in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, or Boynton Beach, there is very little crime and its very safe and upscale in those areas. In fact, those are some of the nicest areas in Florida or the country for that matter. Also, Wellington and Royal Palm Beach in western PBC are nice areas, but are further away from the beach.

Most of the bad crime is in central PBC in West Palm, Riviera Beach, Lake Worth, and Lantana. Just stay to the north, south, or west of those areas and you'll be fine.

May I ask where in florida are you? We just moved to West Boca Raton quiet a few of our neighbors are from NY and NJ and love the West Boca Schools, we have had such nice conversations with them and the lady a few doors down is a Teacher as well....My kids wont be starting school until Aug so I cant comment just yet but we choose this area because for florida schools they are supposed to be very good...My son will be starting High School and we came from NC where we were in an excellent school district and the cirriculum is the same here as it is there...as I have both schedules...anyway,

Being from Brooklyn, NY I have gotten Bialy's that are excellent here, Great Italian Bread like NY, Bagels depends on what u like there is an excellent place in Hillsboro my brought us bagels last week that were delicious...Pizza we only had once and it was good..but not great...Its too bad you want to go back to ny as that is one place we could never go back too...

Do you mean Drexel? Very seedy trailer park, pretty run down area and homeless people camp out in vacant property.
