Default Illinois to Jupiter

My husband and I are considering relocating from Illinois to Jupiter. My husband is an electrician and is self employed. I am an RN. We have family in Jupiter and would like to move away from the brutal winters of the midwest. Is the Palm Beach area saturated with electricians? My husband would start another company based in Jupiter. Do any other former Illinois families have any advice?

Default moving here from illinois

I thought I would let you know that most of the people that move from the mid-west are happiest on the west coast of florida.. my parents live over there and we have met a lot of people that have lived on east coast but prefer it over there.

Damn I know you people will go to any lengths to move but maybe the moon is far enough. I am not sure that Jupiter will support life. Serously if he is good at his craft and you have the money to wait for the business to take off you should be fine. Word of mouth and satisified customers will do wonders. I have a friend who is in the same field and when he moved here he hooked up with a local builder for a couple years and then went on his own and is doing well. Good Luck

Thanks for the advice. My husband is great at what he does. His business is thriving here d/t word of mouth. We hope the same will happen in Jupiter.

Hi There,

We are from Southeast Wisconsin. We have lived in West Palm Beach for 2 years. We were escaping the same brutal winters. We absolutely love the weather. We do not like the East Coast at all. Too many reasons to name.
Lots of crime, lots of congestion. It really is not all that "pretty" here either.
The person that made the other post about living on the Golf side is right.
We are moving from here to Naples in about 2 months. I can't wait.

Be aware. Florida is VERY different than Illinois ( I worked in Illinois for 10 years ) or Wisconsin. Its hard to explain. You'll see what I mean when you get here.

My suggestion for any Midwesterner is the Golf side.

Good Luck

Default Gulf

I'm in Jupiter...

Electricians - LOTS of them...but I'm not sure that would affect business.

There is a noticeable difference between coasts - East coast is hurried and cranky while the West coast seems a bit more laid back - and somehow they have managed to keep that coast more lushly wooded.

Come visit in the dead of summer and then again during 'season' to get an idea of the extremes we call normal.

Good luck, no matter your choice!

We lived in Jupiter for 4 years, it is amazing. The crime rate is very low, traffic not bad at all. The people very friendly. A good electrician will quickly build business through word of mouth.

People on these boards tend to over generalize. Not all of the East Coast is one way or the other. Not all of the Gulf coast is one way or the other. To mention that one lived in West Palm Beach for two years in the same post as Jupiter makes no sense at all. They are completely different lifestyles and one has nothing to do with the other.

Jim is right about Jupiter vs. West Palm - not the same animal. But I've lived in South Florida for almost 30 years - there is a difference between the two coasts.
