how is palm beach public school?

i like that it is close to the beach. i could get a tiny place by it and walk to beach before school with my son.

then i could pop up to lake worth for a fun time on nights he is with his daddy.

it looks like a nice school. my son plays the cello and is going into the 2nd grade gifted program.

should i be worried about Riviera beach, west palm beach, and lake worth surrounding it?

the school draws gifted kids from those areas and has a magnet program for the kids who want to play stringed instruments from that area.

it has a very high percentage on free lunch programs and a diverse student body, whcich I like.

or should i just stick with boca gifted programs and gated communities. . . which is better for a docile and easily bullied kid? toughen him up?

Palm Beach (the actual island) is extremely expensive. Are you referring to just Palm Beach County?

If you can find a rental in the Flamingo Park area, your child will go to Palm Beach Public, on the Island.

Rents in Palm Beach are still high comparably speaking, though you can find much better deals on the South end of Palm Beach Island, which is further away from downtown Palm Beach, but closer to Lake Worth.

i found a couple of very small rentals on the island within four blocks of the school. i would need to store some furniture, but we are just a mama a kid team who currently live in a large 2 bedroom beach apartment, so it would be a matter of smaller rooms.

I went up there yesterday and have to say i loved it. we could walk to museums and parks and beach and school, and even city place.

does anyone have experience with palm beach public school? i am choosing between it and addison mizner because i haven't found anything i like near del prado and i need a court order to get permission to move to sarasota.

I have no personal experience with Palm Beach Public, but I have neighbors whose kids go there. No complaints, "honor student" sticker on the car, etc.

BTW, the supermarket on Palm Beach is Publix. The next closest one is in Cityplace.

is there a whole foods or comparable in the area?

I wandered around all day and night in the neighborhood last night. I mean, i have to decide between that and boca, and i've been in boca forever. there seemed to be so much more life int eh palm beach/wpb area. businesses were actually ringing up sales and restaurants were packed.

i am just not understanding west boca, i get the good school thing, but as a single thirty somethign with every other weekend off, wpb looks great.

do you get planes overhead? on the satellite it looks like flamingo park/palm beach public might be plane path

You have to travel to Palm Beach Gardens for the Wholefoods, though there may be some little markets on Palm Beach proper.

The direct flight path from PBIA is actually about a mile and a half south of Flamingo Park. (On the Island, I think they go right above Trump's Mar-a-Lago). They are close though. Every now and then there'll be one that flies NE over the neighborhood though. You don't even notice them after a while. I kinda like watching them.

I wonder what the impact is to living sort of near an airport?

Well, the West Palm Beach air quality is measurable on a daily basis. The testing point is not that far from the airport, and due to the ocean wind, WPB has very good air quality, even factoring in the airport.

As for "sleep patterns," airplane noise is not that noticeable after the first week of living here! The first flights out of PBIA are about 6AM it seems.
