I heard about this last week. We were looking at some homes out there but this news makes me extremely apprehensive. I hope they get to the bottom of this soon and locate the source.

I just posted a reply in another thread about this....I lived in the Acreage for 10 years and now I'm scared to death, especially about my 2 kids. We moved to GA 1 1/2 years ago, but I was pregnant there, I bathed my kids there, we drank the water there, we breathed the air and played in the dirt there. I'm talking to my pediatrician today. My youngest has been complaining about headaches and has been throwing up lately. More than likely, it's just too much heat (I pray that's all it is) but I still want to get his opinion and have it on file with my concerns.
BTW, I wouldn't move there for a whole host of reasons, not the least withstanding a cancer cluster scare!

We will most likely end up in Jupiter Farms or Palm Beach Country Estates but those neighborhoods are making me nervous now as well. They both have well water like the Acreage, anything is possible.
To the poster above me, I wish you the best with your son!

I used to live out there. What are your reasons for not liking it out there? We have friends in Canton GA, and we'd rather live up there ourselves, but I'm curious.

We keep in touch with one of our neighbors that still lives there. He gives us the low-dow on what's happening. He was the first one to bring this cancer story to my attention. My reasons for not moving there, property values are still going down, actually that's not opinion, that's a fact. He bought his house at the height and he'll be the first one to tell you that it was a huge mistake, but he's lost almost 50% of his value. Even in CA and Vegas they are not loosing that much.
I went back to visit in March and it's very sad now. Where there used to be mostly manicured lawns, nice landscaping, well kept houses, houses now are being neglected. I saw house after house with weeds up to the windows, dead landscaping, houses in disrepair...it was so sad.
We definitely like living in GA a million times more. Sure, I miss having 1.5 acres a lot. I only have 1/3 acre now and I feel almost claustrophobic in my house. But it was our choice to buy our current house in spite of the small parcel. We gave up acreage for a nicer, newer, much larger home in an extremely well maintained SD. Well, that's my take.

^^^ Good for you. I used to live out there too when I was younger. It has changed a lot. Where I live now, in Orlando, there are also foreclosures everywhere. We live in a big subdivision, and I'd say close to 20% are foreclosed. Weeds, the lawns, the appearance, it's pretty bad. And my wife and I - our first house - puts a bad taste in our mouths. If I didnt have my General COntractors license and need to have good credit (and you need good credit for houseing, cars, etc) I'd think about leaving our house and foreclosing. Not because we cant afford it, but because we dont see a lot of hope anytime soon, and since we dont like Orlando anymore (for what it has become), we went to leave in the next year or two.
