Looking to possibly move to Central Boca but petrified of the job market
Live in Long Island, NY, but between the 3 hour daily commute (round trip) to NYC and the crazy cost of living, we're thinking of moving to central boca.
heard the schools (del prado) are excellent, and the cost of living is significantly less than NY, and i heard great things about the jewish community there, but ....
I've had the same job for the last 20 years (i'm in my early 40s) and heard the job market in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area is poor right now.
can anyone give me some insight, as to how hard is it to get a decent corporate job if you have a college degree and the experience?
thanks.

Boca Raton is relatively strong in software, telecommunications, some aviation, health care, accounting, financial consulting, marketing, advertising, some publishing, and it is global headquarters to Office Depot.
A college degree? About as useful as a high school diploma was 40-50 years ago.
Best is if you have your experience and some connections in the above areas. If you just send out resumes cold, your chances are probably slim: some experience alone probably won't cut it without connections; if you have significant experience and/or a top notch advanced degree, you would probably already have connections.
I would not recommend a commute from Boca Raton to Miami, perhaps Fort Lauderdale or, alternatively, West Palm Beach.
Where is your experience?
If you have experience in aviation, life sciences and/or biofuels, for example, you may try north county: Jupiter also has a reputation for decent schools. Also FPL has its headquarters in Juno, I believe.
Good Luck!

I am not sure if I had a job in one state would I move to another without a job set. It is so risky. If you have a few years of savings this is different. I am not sure how much you would enjoy FL if you are unemployed and worring how you would pay your bills. I am not trying to be a downer just a few thoughts. This feeling I have is for any state moving without a job if you have one in your current. Have you started looking online for jobs in your field here?

My dh commutes to hollywood from boca its 35 min door to door...however Miami he would not do the commute from boca that is nightmare...I agree with the other poster, living here since June and knowing some of the commute times Id stay away from Miami unless u dont mind an hour plus commute....
good luck....

The schools are good for FL, but do not measure up to excellent schools in NY or other areas.
The job market is poor. If it is possible to set up some interviews in advance and find a job before you move that could really help you.
The Jewish community in Boca is very strong.
I understand the desire to move from the long commutes and high cost of living in NY. We relocated from Northern Westchester to Weston 9 years ago. The job market was good back then and my husband had no problem lining up a job before we moved. Things are different now. Good luck with your decision.
