So where should I live? I'm a 24 year old girl and ideally, I would like to be able to live in a house/cottage/condo in a downtown area where I could at least walk to Publix or Walgreens and bars, restaurants, and cultural events. By walkable, I mean less than 20 minutes and not through any overly dangerous areas.

I lived in the Brickell area of Miami for a summer and loved it, so I wonder if it makes sense to live in an area like downtown Ft. Lauderdale, since Miami to Boca seems like a hike. I love downtown Delray Beach, but don't know how quickly it gets dangerous or how livable it is.

Why not eastern Boca? They have a smallish downtown.

Downtown Delray is probably your best bet.

Downtown Lake Worth, if you stay east of Dixie Highway and north of Lake Avenue would work, and be very affordable, but you will hear a lot about crime in the area just west of downtown.

We live in the Renaissance Commons area in Boynton and really like it so far. Lots of stuff to do, restuarants, shopping, etc. you can get a nice newer place to rent/own for reasonable too. Lots of young professional types in the area.

Default East Boca

I also agree with East Boca. Might just be what your looking for. It's clean, safe and walkable in parts. Lots of restaurants shops etc.

Be careful where you rent or buy as the area is changing all around Palm Beach County----Originally from Brooklyn NY and live in West Palm for 30 years...ask and check around before making a major move. I would suggest renting at first....it is a buyers market now....

What's your price range? You don't mention how much you are willing to spend a month for housing and that's vital info necessary to give you a better idea of where to look. Are you interested in Broward County or the Ft. Lauderdale area as well?

I have friends your age who live in downtown West Palm Beach and they love it. They can walk to Clematis St and City Place where all the bars are. Only one of them has a car as they can walk to Publix, etc. But it is an urban environment so there's not a lot of greenery.
