Im looking at a possible relocation to south florida but having a hard time finding the right place for me.

First I thought Fort lauderdale, it's close to miami and has a lot of nightlife, people, and jobs.

I have a couple friends who seem to think I will like west palm better though.

I'm just wondering if anyone can compare the differences of the two places for a single straight guy in his 20's who works in the restaurant industry and likes to go out a lot.

It's critical for me to have some walkable nightlife and choices. I also want to get involved in hobby groups, take some dance classes, and get back into self defense classes. I like to stay active, have things to do, and network. I don't want to pick a place that will be too hard to find a restaurant job or overly competitive for that position and I want to pick a place that has some quality restuarant jobs with quality money.

I looked into southbeach too but it seems too exclusive in a lot of ways, and it sounds like it would be hard to meet people unless your rich, famous, spanish, or on steroids.

West Palm Beach is definitely not better than Fort Lauderdale. I've lived in West Palm for about 3 years now, originally from Orlando, and I've found it hard to adjust to the lack of nightlife here. It's definitely saved me money, since I don't enjoy going out anymore. It's not there is no nightlife, but the places here cater towards an older crowd. It's just not a party atmosphere. There are some nice things about living in West Palm, especially nature related stuff and state parks, and some of the historic neighborhoods just south of downtown are really cool. But if what you're looking for is nightlife, then Fort Lauderdale or Miami are where you want to be. Hollywood is a pretty good location too, it's right in between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, not much nightlife in Hollywood itself (other than the casino), but you're 15 min south of Ft. Lauderdale, and maybe 15-20 min north of Miami.

P.S. If you're looking for good nightlife in Miami, don't go to South Beach, check out some of the places downtown, like the White Room and the Vagabond, they're much less stuck up than South Beach clubs.
