Crazy your statement makes no sence! 1st the area you mention IS developed! It also catters to Thousands of Commuters! Has homes & apts surrounding it! Roundhouse has been redone into Tourest Musum! RR even built a new area where people can sit & wait. Nice new bathrooms plenty of parking Pantran Bus service! 35+ yrs I lived here No Crime!
I think the problem with Sears at the Martinsbrug Mall was that it was in competition with its sister locations in Hagerstown and Winchester. I suspect those locations did more business.
I noticed that the Martinsburg location did not necessarily have the same promotions as its sister locations as well- I once bought a pair glasses at the Martinsburg location which had a special buy one get the second half off. It wasn't until I visited the Hagerstown location that I discovered that they had the better deal- buy one get one free. D'oh....
That area around the station, roundhouse and the railroad in general is a pretty run down and fairly high crime area, so I wouldnt expect much development there
Pity too. That area could have some great potential with the right amount of cash flow and proper business protocol and profit making ideas.
Sears is Mainly leaving cause its Lease is Up & Mountain State is Not renewing. They are turning it into Class Rooms!! Kmart is still here.... Maybe Sears will take over the Old LOWES! Wouldnt that be great!!
The old Lowe's???? What the heck! Don't tell me that the Lowe's off Exit 12 has also closed. Your a native, is this just another case of the Martinsburg shift?

I was able to read the article via my cell phone on the way into work except the pics didn't come up. Maybe I'll remember to check again from home computer sometime over the weekend. I would have loved to see some of those pics.
Surprised no mention was made of the cinema over by the M/Mall.

That would actually be a welcome change....The old lowes is an eyesore and Rat hotel.
