I am looking into a job at the school of osteopathic medicine in Lewisburg. I have never been there before. Can anyone tell me what it is like living in and around the area? Not sure that we would live in town. We prefer a little bit of land/space (5 or less acres). We have a family (11 y old, 7 yr old, and baby) so schools and activities for them are important. Does anyone know if there are any English horse riding stables around-my daughter does hunter/jumper? What about a YMCA? Shopping? I live in PA now-it seems like the average daily temps throughout the fall/winter are a little more temperate than they are here-is this true? Any ideas of typical snow fall in the winter?
Thank you in advance!

Contact for horses Swift Level: Horses

Virginia Horse Center is about an hour away. Official Site of the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington (http://horsecenter.org/restore/2010%20schedules/Schedule%202010.asp - broken link)

Yes to YMCA, lots of kids activities, one example Carnegie Hall - Bringing the Arts to Life - Lewisburg, West Virginia

What kind of shopping? No big malls, but Lewisburg isn't really a mall town.

Thanks for the reply-we're not into big shopping on a regular basis (like department stores), but curious where they are in relation to Lewisburg. What about a Lowes or HD, target or walmart, health food/natural food store? Are there any local farmer's markets? Do any of the local farms have anything for the fall/Halloween (like hayrides, apple picking, weekend events)?

Lewisburg was just voted America's coolest small town

There is both a Lowe's and Walmart

plus downtown Lewisburg has a lot of small shopping, art galleries, cafes, other restaurants, ect....

The Greenbrier Resort is very close by, which is a huge deal

The schools I hear are very nice, due to the very kind donations from the area's elite.

I don't live in Lewisburg, but it is a really great place!!!

There is a Lowe's and a Super WalMart in Lewisburg. They are right across the street from each other. The State Fair is in Lewisburg, so traffic is a NIGHTMARE during that week.

I graduated from high school there in 1981. The schools are fine and the marching band is ranked nationally.

Great health food store downtown, local farmers market, the link I gave you for horses also raises beef for sale. There's a great corn maze at Halloween.
