I have noticed when I was house searching that all over the WV, MD, VA, OH, PA areas there seem to be Many houses with a large Star hung on them somewhere.

Can anyone enlighten me as to the meaning of this Star?

The large stars that you see on houses are only decorative pieces based on owner preference. When you see a smaller, flat star with a bolt in the middle of it on an older building (normally there are several), these are structural supports to give the exterior of the building more strength against sag and in some cases earthquakes. Here is a thread on the topic from a few years ago. Hope this helps.
