Default Martinsburg Living

I'll be moving to Martinsburg in 3 months for a job. But I need to fine housing that I can afford even if I have to commute. Any one with ideas?

Do you have kids in school? There are plenty of subdivision in and around Martinsburg. I am moving to Brookfield in Falling Waters next month. My husband is working in Martinsburg. I did research on the schools and found that we wanted to stay out of the Martinsburg school district.

BTW, where are you moving from?

Kids just started college; would prefer a new home with maybe a 30 commute.

I didn't realize that Martinsburg is so small. As for the commute, 30 minutes was a dream thought. I need ideas on communities that are open areas maybe woods or water near by. I just don't want to find myself sitting in traffic every morning or afternoon longer than is needed.

That should be no problem. Martinsburg has no traffic after everyone leaves for DC. thats about 6 am. Play golf real nice coures about 1.5 miles from your job location. Any way check your PM. I will tell you more when I can talk to a friend about the housing in that area.

Simpleguy,

First, my sympathy for you and yours.

Where are you moving from and what area will you be working?
All in all driving around Martinsburg is not bad. It has turned into a full bedroom community for DC workers.

Buying a home in Berkeley? I would suggest that you receive a full "certified" inspection of your home before you sign on the dotted line and that from an inspector who is registered professionally and possibly from Hagerstown or Winchester.

For schools, look to Hedgesville High or Mussleman. Martinsburg High has became rather bad.

Locations: If in town limits. Look to the west of Tennessee Avenue. Martinsburg's east side from the 700 block of West King to Burke and Green Hill has become very dicey. Downtown is old with little pride to turn it into the jewel it should be. Finding the Martinsburg Police precint is easy on Queen, just look for the porn shop and the police is right across the street

If looking into the North County side (Falling Waters) or the South (Bunker Hill) attempt to find a location with public utilities. Since there is no zoning and lack of other requirements you may find a .25 acre lot complete with well and septic. Well + Septic + small lots = Possibility of muddy poopy water.

Was born and raised in the B'urg and back due to elderly family members multiple times per year. The old place has changed over the years.

Good Luck
