I second that. People who sold and moved away are now sorry. I did and can't stop kicking myself. The amount of road work that is being done in and around Welch strongly suggests something good is going to happen to welch and surrounding areas. You don't put that much work on streets and roadways of a dead or nearly dead city for no reason. Lots of work being done.
A federal prison is coming. Motels will be needed for those visiting the inmamtes. More motels means more restaurants, more jobs, more traffic, more jobs, more revenue, more jobs, more reason to come here and all the more reason to scarf up homes in the area.

This looks like a very pretty area, and from the linked article above, it looks like the future is promising. Also, there are some lovely old houses for sale there, with tons of space. The one I like the best is the old "mansion", which unfortunately needs a new roof, and has no heat. But, the outside just shouts character. I'm a sucker for old houses, even when they need tons of work. We may end up driving through Welch next month.

What do people in and around Welch, WV think about the Federal Prison coming? I am thinking about coming to work at that prison. Where should I live? What is around there?

Welch residents view it as a cash cow and very needed boost to the area's economy.

Get in line. With so many people out of work and a slow economy, a whole heap of people are standing in the line to work there. There will be no shortage of applicants and the prison will literally be able to pick the best of the best.

Housing is not a problem. Just drive around the area, off the main road and you will see plenty of FOR SALE signs in yards. A great many homes are RENT TO OWN and require very little down. Not much to do in Welch. There is a bowling alley, movie theatre, super Wal-Mart, road side flea markets, ATV trails and lots of wilderness areas for hiking, fishing and hunting. But if you have a car, you can always go further to larger cities for whatever you are looking for.
