My family and I have begun to think Parkersburg is the place for us. We're thinking of moving there as soon as the youngest finishes high school (a couple of years). We are looking for a couple of locals who would be willing to penpal and be a sounding board as we have questions. We are 45/49 and our kids are 14/16. Any help would be appreciated.

Do's and don't? Don't run the stop lights on Emerson avenue. There are already too many that do that.

I've lived in both Parkersburg and Marietta (currently Parkersburg as I work here and we were able to get a better buy on a one-story house close to amenities) and would be happy to serve as a sounding board. My husband and I are in our fifties and will probably stay in this area in retirement. Where are you currently?

Default Thank You

We currently live in Milpitas (SF Bay Area, Ca). My wife is originally from the Canton area so she is very familier with the region. I grew up in Bakersfield, Ca so I am used to the small town feel. We are thinking of coming out and renting at first to get the lay of the land and to judge the area to see what would work for us and what we have in mind. We're thinking on the edge of town, not too far out 10/15 acres. Something small but workable. Any ideas?

I'm not too familiar with the outlying areas as I HATE driving in snow and so have always lived in town, but we have several colleagues with country places, so I'll keep my ears open; there are generally semi-developed properties near town for sale. I don't know about rentals.

We live in Wheeling but my wife just accepted a job in downtown Parkersburg. We'd like to get her a 1 bedroom apt for weekday stay in a safe neighborhood.

Do you have any suggestions on where we should start?

There aren't really any "dangerous" parts of town. There are certainly nicer parts than others though.

She can get an apt in just about any part of the city or even Vienna and be downtown in 10 minutes or so.

Vienna is nice as it's where all the shopping is.

I have sent an email on yahoo to Rebek56, because I couldn't seem to get on here. In any event we are in the serious mode about relocating to Parkersburg. Looks like you get a lot of bang for your buck, and with the housing market as it is..doesn't look like we're going to get what we want and need. So you had mentioned some areas to avoid. We cruised around looking at housing we had seen on realtor.com and maybe we were in one of those areas and didn't know it. Parkersburg Chamber of Commerce is sending us city map so we'll find our way around. You know those GPS's can give you fits some time. So thanks ahead of time, we look forward to the info and staying in touch. We are older than you guys, but a younger older...not the courch potatoe kind Thanks ahead of time.
