![]() People mention how friendly and helpful the people are in West Virginia. On nice weekends I try to use one of our antique cars. Saturday as we left the resturant in Mannington the car wouldn't start. Raising the hood, I noticed that it was just a dirty battery terminal. Before I could clean it and start the car, four (that's 4) people had offered me help, and I was parked out of the way. That's what West Virginian's are all about. Another story happened in Germany two years ago. My son was stationed at the Ramstein Hospital and tended to the wounded as they were coming from Iraq and Afganistan. In a telephone conversation, I told him to look after the West Virginia boys and girls coming through. He laughed at me, until I told him that all West Virginians are family and more of them serve in the armed forces than any other state. He began doing that and about a week later met a wounded Sergeant that he knew in high school. My son called the parents and set the situation at ease and met them when they flew to Germany to be with their son. They phoned us when they returned and related all this to us... Anyone else have a similar story or situation that they would want to relate? |

The following Letter to the Editor appeared in the February 2, 2006, edition of the Pocahontas Times. By the way, the local regional airport to which he refers is probably Lewisburg, about 40 miles away.

Mario's of course...best Italian food in central WV.
Pauley was from New York City, married a local girl and came to West Virginia...the rest is history. Rented an old Tastee-Freeze that had sat idle for 10 years...elbow grease and a great personality has brought them instant success for over 10 years. Best breakfast is Pauley's Special Omelet..1 pound of everything you can think of delightfully wrapped inside 3 eggs..toast and home fries done to perfection...hangs over the plate on 2 sides...cost $6.25 |
