The track does have a training facility for defensive driving, in fact I know one of the managers quite well.

I live in Inwood, and as the crow flies the track is about 8 miles. On certain race days, I can hear them. You have to like cars to live near there.

C'Town has a ton of good places to live. I know of a development outside of town that's in the vicinity of the track with 5+ acre lots and custom homes. The lots are now selling for 75K and well, well worth it. You could build a nice custom for the price range you're in. In fact, all of the homes built in that little development are custom.

Leetown is another great area. It's between C'Town and Shepherdstown. I used to live in a small development called Woodbury Estates and all the homes (and the folks) are great. Personally I am suspect of most of the box builder / developments. A lot of the Dan Ryan homes are junk boxes (IMO). There's better out there, such as Zachary Homes or some of the smaller builders like the Skinner brothers. Plus, the smaller developments are more personal. We live in a smaller development now in Inwood along the Opequon Creek, with lot sizes ranging from 3-10 acres. Everybody get's along well and watches out for one another. Obviously it's a preference thing, but I guess I just want to say there are a lot of good choices out there. No doubt you can find what you're looking for and certainly in your price range..

Default Junk Houses

Threerun, we're looking at a Dan Ryan home. I'm glad you said they weren't very good. Do you know where we can get some information on Skinner Brothers or Zachary Homes? I could not find a web site. We're thinking of moving within a year. Thanks, Suitland

The Skinner brothers are absolutely fantastic builders. They are a 2nd/3rd generation family run business and their dedication to quality and craftsmanship cannot be beat.

For the most part they do all the work, not subbing out as most others do. For the longest time they had their own cabinetry shop and did EVERYTHING in house. I don't know if they still have that shop, but if you want them to make your cabinets, trim and built-ins, they can do that for you. As such, time to build may be a bit longer than normal (okay a lot longer) and the price pretty steep.

They are not cheap, but if you want a damn well built house- they would be my 1st choice. I've been in several Skinner built homes, most of which were HUMONGOUS. Simply fantastic is all I can say. Honest guys, good family and they stand by their work.

Zachary Homes are good, but not as good as Skinner. They are semi-custom but sub out most work (which is normal). They did a lot of homes over near Tuscawilla Hils at the golf course.

Dan Ryan homes are dog houses compared to Skinner homes, lol. They can be found in the phone book- no web pages for those guys.

you may also consider S&A Homes out of Martinsburg. They built our first WV home and we were totally satisfied with the quality of work, finish detail and customer service.

I'm in a Zachary Home...built in 2004. The build quality is pretty good,
but there are things I would have done differently if I had to do it all
again. They have a website, but right now, their only active project
is a townhouse community in Shepherdstown. There are two homes
for sale in my development right now, one right next door.

Welcome to Zachary Homes LLC.

What we are looking for is a neighborhood that is good for families and around nice schools. I would like to have a decent size lot (.5 acres) but not be in a neighborhood without any trees. The ones that used to be farmers fields.... We are starting our family so I know we will have a kid/kids in elementary school while living in our next house (most likely). Also I work in Herndon, are there certain areas around Charles Town that have easier access for commuters? I have the option of coming to work pretty early (at the office by 5:30) so traffic shouldn't be too much of an issue. Right now I am commuting 52 miles and coming down 95s and around the dreaded beltway so anything will be an improvement.

Basically any info on Charles Town would be great!
Nice 3/1.5 in Charles Town Wv. W North St. Avail 4.21.08 1250.rent /215.000 buy
