Where in WV is a good place to move if you want to live in the woods/ country setting/ more secluded and still be in an hour or so driving distance to a small - medium sized town?

Parkersburg is a smaller town with a medium feel. Total metro population for Marietta-Parkersburg is around 50,000 but there is a closeness and community bond of a small town. Parkersburg has even had some recent growth in the way of shopping and restaurants. Great medical services, good school systems (both, private and public), an active drive-in theater, and you wouldn't even have to drive an hour to find seclusion.

For larger city options (arts & entertainment, sporting events, etc) you'd only be an hour from Charleston, WV and Pittsburg, PA and 2 hours from Columbus, OH.

Default Pocahontas City??

I can't find a Pocahontas City. I find a town called Pocahontas south of Charleston, but other than that all I keep getting is Pocahontas County.

Try Marlington. Its small, about 1,000 - 3,000 ish I think. I'm from Elkins the closest city of any size. People from there would come to Elkins for like a hospital and shopping, etc. Try Marlington, Cass, Green Bank all are very secluded, and all in Pocahontas County

Sorry to nit-pick...

It's Marlinton, not Marlington. Orginally called Marlin's Bottom, after one of the original settlers back in the 1700s.

Also, it's a lot longer to Pittsburgh from Parkersburg than an hour; three hours would be more like it. Columbus is probably 2 - 2.5 hours.

I'm sorry, I meant an hour and a half. If you were in traffic then yes, it could take up to 2 and maybe even 2.5 hours.

Google says it's 140 miles, Parkersburg to Pittsburgh. Unless they've made major improvements to Rte 2 in the past couple of months, I wouldn't want to make that trip in 1.5 hours, or even 2 hours.
