NRCTC readying for construction of new campus
Quote:
— With ever increasing enrollment and perched at the beginning of major construction, New River Community and Technical College’s board of directors and representatives find themselves at an exciting precipice.
Bill Loope, vice president of Institutional Advancement and Workforce Education, announced the community college is prepared to bid out construction on their new Raleigh County campus and dirt should start moving on the site later this spring.
The facility, located beside the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center in Beaver, will be a 78,000-square-foot complex with two wings; one with teaching laboratories and classrooms and another with an Allied Health facility to be shared by New River and other institutions.
Joining these two wings will be a dramatic central atrium that will house all student service offices (like counseling, administration and business offices), an area for studying, relaxing, eating and socializing.
The atrium will feature a cafe and a bookstore-type atmosphere.
In all, the project will cost $17.5 million, but will take another $2.4 million to furnish, said Loope.
