Default searching for War Eagle

Hi,
I hope someone can help. I am searching for the town I was born in, War Eagle W.Va. It doesn't seem to be on any map and I don't even know if it still exits. I thought it was in Mingo County. I don't have a birth certificate so it's difficult to know for sure, but the one thing I am sure of is the name. It was definately War Eagle. Has anyone heard of this town? Please help if you can.
Thanks,
Shela

Hi Shela,

Found it. Use Google Maps and type War Eagle, WV in the search box and it will come up.

Yes, Shela, War Eagle is in Mingo Co. West Virginia. I live in McDowell Co. which is a neighboring County. Have some friends in War Eagle with the last
name Mounts.

Drive to Isaban from Gilbert. After you leave Isaban, watch for an abandoned red brick school bldg (Hardy Union) on your right. Just past the school, take the road to your right up over the mountain, and continue on to the Norfolk Southern RR bridge and go under it. You will be in War Eagle as soon as you are over the mountain all the way to the railroad bridge and through it to the Tug River. The coal camp was mined out in the 1930s-40s. I was born there in 1934 and grew up in Isaban.
GeorgeL
PS I believe you may also get there in a crude road along the railroad from Wharncliffe. But I got there over the mountain as recently as 1994.

Isaban is on a distinguished road
Hi, Shela. I lived in War Eagle for several years starting about 1940. I have been looking on maps too. We lived up the railroad about 1/4 mile past the old company store. Glad to know there is someone else who knows the place.
