A West Virginia man who told authorities he was hitchhiking across the country and writing a memoir about kindness was injured in a seemingly random drive-by shooting

This one deal has nothing to do with kindness of others in America.

When I was young I hitch-hiked all the time with out trouble.
Today you don't know what kind of people are hicth-hiking.

The hitch-hiker said he thought the man wanted to give him a ride,
which means he did not know for sure.

The man in the car may have though the hitch-hiker was
trying to break into his car, and hurt him, so he shot him,
trying to protect himself.

Without a statement being made from the shooter
we don't really know why.
