Southern Border I-77
Afternoon!
Planning a trip to the South and am looking for a town worth a visit along the southern WV border off I-77. Any thoughts?

Bluefield WV is literally right on the border... cross the street and you're in Virginia. Any day that hits 90 degrees is a "Lemonade Day" in Bluefield, and local businesses give away free lemonade.
Bramwell WV, about 10-15 miles northwest of Bluefield, was once the city of choice for the region's coal barons. Now home to fewer than 400 residents, it is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. A number of buildings, both residential and commercial, from the late 1800s remain; many have been restored.

Not in WV, but just a few miles after the tunnel there is a recreation of an eastern woodlands indian settlement called Wolf Creek. It is only 3 minutes off of the Bastian exit.
In Beckley, there is Tamarack, which is a WV artisan & craft shop. A lot of their stuff is high end and there is a decent restaurant there too. Also in Beckley, there is an exhibition coal mine & coal village at New River Park, however, that might be more time than you have available.
Pretty much everything else that might be interesting is rather inconvenient for the typical traveler.

There is NOTHING worth visiting in either Bluefield or Bramwell, or anywhere near them. They are towns that progress has left behind. Princeton is a lot nicer than Bluefield and there isnt anything worth mentioning there either.
My advice would be to keep driving and find a place to stop in VA, like Galax.

Not while you're traveling to another area. Also, there are some throw-away towns that come to mind. Rhodell, Mullins, Oceana, War, Meadow Bridge, ect.

Looks like they will be serving free lemonade for a week in Bluefield. Use to live near there & do not ever remember the temps being as hot as now.
