In West Virginia:

Parkersburg $164,333

In comparison:
Richmond, VA $360,792
Pittsburgh, PA $263,964
Columbus, OH $238,170
Buffalo, NY $248,575
Fayetteville, NC $206,017
Jacksonville, FL $340,353
Orlando, FL $407,000
Tampa, FL $350,000

In Florida, you're just beginning with the home price.

Property insurance, if you can get it at all, on one of those average houses runs $8-10K a year. Property taxes another $3-4K or more. In the hot months, electricity can run $300+ per month, and water isn't cheap, either.

Buffalo at 250K? Not anymore, the old rust belt just has Realtor signs today that state, giveaway to good owners.

Richmond is also slightly over stated, unless you are talking West Chesterfield county or Monument in the city local.
