Beckley is just south of Oak Hill...correct??? Since it's growing...that would mean more schools and jobs.

The Panhandle is growing very rapidly, so is Morgantown, but many mountain areas of Wv are not growing nearly as fast. I live in Beverly WV which is 8 miles south of Elkins, and Elkins is growing as far as Resturants, Car lots, and Retail stores go, but nothing really in the line of better paying jobs. I personely always liked Pocahontas County and would love to be able to retire there some day. Marlinton in general doesn't have much growth going on though it has grown in the last few years. I do some work in Marlinton and it only takes me about an hour to get there from Beverly provided I don't get behind a bus or something. A lot of people from Pocahontas county come north to Elkins to see the doctor, for shopping and such, I am sure people from the southern part of Pocahontas head towards Lewisburg for these same reasons. Either way both Lewisburg and Elkins have a lot to offer Pocahontas folks and niether are more than an hour away in most cases.
I would like to see something in the line of jobs come into Marlinton both for the locals and to attract outsiders. It is a very nice place to live or visit, and I think anyone could fall in love with these wonderful mountains.

That is correct if you are speaking of the Oak Hill that is located on rte 19. There is another Oak Hill on rte 259 near Winchester Va I believe.

Thanks for the small town feel and a jolt to a few of the memory cells. This left over hippie, once visited Marlinton for a few months in 1967. Planted pine trees in the shale in the forest for the forestry dept. They gave us a shoulder sack with fertilized saplings and a spade. We'd be in a long line and take two strides, spear the ground with our spade, put in a baby tree, close it and take the next two steps. Got paid 1.60 an hour and appreciated it. I'm hoping they're all grown up by now. Although I didn't fix in exactly, I was welcomed and felt a sense of home like nowhere else. I enjoyed drivin’ up the hill to Jack's tavern and shootin’ some pool downtown. Was a fan of "The Good Earth" so when I passed by Ms Buck's ranch on the way to Lewisburg, I felt like an Elvis fan visiting Graceland. I would stop and lean on the wooden pole fence, and look on back to the main house and imagine how all those great story ideas were heating up the roof. Those memories made Marlinton an extra special place. I was in Marlinton long enough to chauffer 3 elderly ladies to Richmond. They had a chance to check me out, enjoy not driving and catch up on everything that was Marlinton. I was young and they trusted me, and I got to drive. I got an ear full but thought it was "way cool". On the way back we briefly got a chance to walk around the Greenbrier Hotel. Whoa baby! I realize now that I did a lot of good thinking in Marlinton and my heart was at rest...maybe it's the trees, or the river or the people... it was a great time. Thanks again
