Thats because the people to time ratio is much higher there.
In the DC/ NoVa area, a utility crew could spend 10 hours and restore power to potentially 10-20,000 residents.
In WV, that same crew would spend 10 hours and only restore at most a few thousand, but mainly a few hundred or even less.
WV's terrain and low population densities do not equate to a quick fix when something this severe occurs.

It also has to do with effort. People here demand service and the government doesnt let them slack.

When you have 1.1 million people living in a single county (fairfax), or 650,000 living in a city with a density around 10,000 people/square mile, it's easier to show progress because fixing a single circuit can restore 100,000 homes. Additionally, there aren't exactly mountains and hollows to contend with here, and the trees in many areas are long since gone. Finally, many of the newer communities here have underground utilities. Since there's basically nothing new aside from the sporadic McMansion neighborhood in WV near Charleston, most everything is above ground. Entire towns are less than 10 years old here, what do you expect with regards to the DMV's power grid vs an entire rural state's? I think you just like to ***** to stir people up. Charleston is the largest city in WV and holds more people there in a day than Morgantown receives for the biggest football game, but you expect them to divert funds from there so Grant Avenue can have nicer power poles for the students to set on fire? Morgantown is a college town dude, calm down and quit hijacking every thread to ***** about the inequality.

Except when it comes to the metro, police enforcement, local town corruption, etc.

Wv excels in all of these areas, in corruption.

I'm sorry Gustavo but no.
With the students morgant is approx the same size as Charleston. During a game it is much bigger. I know it bruises the ego of people living in Charleston but the truth hurts
Also this post is not about morgantown but for the people of all of wv without power due to charleston's corruption and incompetence.
I will stop posting about this subject when the corruption and theft stops
Until then get used to it or leave.
Also this is my thread. Only hijacker is you.

I've never lived in Charleston, I lived in Morgantown for years though. You should be more familiar with population estimates, especially in a place like WV where they're made up of a bunch of little towns (for instance, Morgantown's 29K does not include Westover, Sabreton, Star City, etc). Charleston's MSA is 300K, Morgantown's is 111K. Even with the largest capacity crowd ever, where I'll assume only 25% of the stadiums occupants included Morgantown MSA residents, plus an additional 19K for the students (assuming 11K show up to the stadium), that's only 182K.
In addition to 150K more full time, permanent residents, Charleston is also the State Capitol and home to many of the state's largest businesses. It is foolish to assume the two should be treated on the same scale.
Finally, you have WV's second largest MSA, Huntington, with about 200K (in the WV portions) only about fifty miles down the road. After knowing many that live in the area, spending time in both areas in the same day is not uncommon, and the distance between them is a short drive at 80MPH. So we've got around 500K all in one area of the state, and you expect things to be equal?
Morgatown is great for what it is, a large, successful college town. It is growing and will eventually turn into something more than a college town, but don't but the cart before the horse. Do you ever hear Charlottesville bitching about the funding treatment from Richmond when it's clear that Charlottesville has a whole lot more going for it and is on an upward trend vs Richmond's gradual decline?
I'm just saying, get over it man, you pollute this forum whining about this crap way too much.

It is arbitrary measurements. In the same land area they are the same size. Morgantown is a large area bit areas are excluded from the count. The Charleston mesa is all of kanawa. Give morgantown that much land and it could stretch to Pittsburgh
Om sorry guatavo but you are not exercising critical thinking. Morgantown is a much more urban and crowded area. Given the same land area that is.
Charleston and Huntington pale in comparison to morgantown Pittsburgh msa. Gustavo Charleston is now a second city.
Charleston is great for what it is. A big town that is quiet and cheap.

On a lighter note.....
Ok, now maybe y'all can take a break from being mean to each other and tell me what you did to cope with the situation (no power). Like, did you do anything relaxing or fun that helped to ease the stress of it all?
(Please, no x-rated responses allowed, lets keep this clean folks, its was too hot/humid for that anyway!)
Well, I learned to play cards again. Seriously, like gin rummy and 5 card stud. What a hoot - it has been years, like maybe 15 or 20. The numbers on cards are bigger now, or maybe my husband bought the ones for the 50 and over crowd. Anyway, hadn't played since my kids were youngins I guess. (OMG, I'm starting to sound like a true WV girl ain't I? I mean aren't I? Well, to be honest, I really am. Just took a little 32 year diversion there, a bit to the east.)
Ok, now, come on. What did YOU do?
