Well, I learned to play cards again. Seriously, like gin rummy and 5 card stud. What a hoot - it has been years, like maybe 15 or 20. The numbers on cards are bigger now, or maybe my husband bought the ones for the 50 and over crowd. Anyway, hadn't played since my kids were youngins I guess. (OMG, I'm starting to sound like a true WV girl ain't I? I mean aren't I? Well, to be honest, I really am. Just took a little 32 year diversion there, a bit to the east.)
Ok, now, come on. What did YOU do?

I worked on my grammar so I wouldn't be stereotyped on blogs.

We were pleased to be a part of hosting some very sweet WV people during this crisis. I don't look at it as political, but a pure tragedy.
It certainly was the case that more urban areas were connected back rather then more rural. That being the case, I am sure that would happen in any state. If you live in the rugged mountainous area your going to have to wait longer, its a given.
We tried to put them at ease with a good Fourth of July day celebration and some good times out and about.
Being able to come up with hard to obtain generators was a god-send and some were eventually found.
Thank goodness the National Guard showed up with water and other forms of help.
Many restaurants lost all their food. Homeowners lost food and even refridgerators were ruined by the long period of uncooked, melting, raw meats.
People with bad breathing problems were having to go to the hospital for help.
So as political as it seems some talk of here, it becomes more then that... if it is even so.
This was quite a bit of suffering for the people of WV and their families. Some still can not return home.
Some wonder what they will return to.
More storms have turned up and I understand, more outages.
I am wishing all the people of WV, that you be restored soon. That your AC's are running and that your insurance company will cover that ruined "fridge." Best of luck to you.

NOTE
There are TWO people who are "polluting" the thread right now. Those two people are lining themselves up for a very very long vacation from being able to post again here if they continue.
Stop. Now.
Comment on the power outage issue in the State. That's it. Add constructively to the conversation - or don't.
Thank you.

Very seriously, the WV people I met were really in stress over the storm, its damage, and subsequent effects.
The loss of electric when it is 100 degrees is such a dangerous health issue. We had one mother here who was 91 years old! We had a restaurant owner who had just lost an enormous amount of food in his refridgerator.
There were some with breathing problems.
I understand that trees had fallen down the mountain onto homes.
It might be because I met these people, and sat and listened to their plight, that I feel heartfelt.
Its hard to believe some still don't have electric.
I'm hoping the National Guard will stay and not leave as intended. Can you imagine having no water?

One of the WV visitors in Myrtle Beach tried to get some generators. Even Harbor Freight couldn't help. They were sending a big order up North and so none were available here to buy.
I really think they are in short supply here, too. Calls were made to stores all over our SC area.
People who have the luck of having one are very thankful. It certainly must be hard to live with that noise though.
( and I heard that is so)

Something to pass on ASAP:
WV offering replacement food stamps for storm victims
Friday, July 6, 2012 2:07 PM EST Updated: Jul 06, 2012 2:07 PM EDT
Anyone on public assistance who lost their food because of storm-related power outages can get replacement food stamps.
The Department of Health and Human Resources said it is adjusting the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program to help families who are in need because of the storm.
Anyone who lost food in June can apply for replacement benefits through their local DHHR offices.
The deadline is Monday, but DHHR officials said that could be extended with federal government approval.
