With Question 7 being passed in Maryland. It looks like Maryland will be building more casinos. What does the future hold for the Hollywood Casino?

It will be a long time before there is any impact on the Charles Town casino. There are many people in Maryland who will not be close enough to the new casino at the National Harbor to visit on a regular basis. The Hollywood Casino is continually making positive changes and up-grades to their facility..it is most convienient for many Marylanders. I went there very recently and the place was booming!

Competition is good. When Pennsylvania allowed casinos (Meadows and The Rivers) to open, Wheeling Island and Mountaineer didn't close.

Yeah, but their revenues have declined, especially at Mountaineer. The new casinos in Ohio won't bode well for those two, either.

elewis7 is right. The revenues are down. I haven't seen any projections for the next 5 years but I assume they will be low.

Well, I've been to the Arundel Mills Casino, and it really is a rip off. I like Charles Town much better. You can play for a long time on the slots for little money, even maybe win some! The ones at Arundel Mills robbed me of $30 in less than 15 minutes (they kept "winning" but the winnings were less than I had bet. Soon enough, out of cash). If their full casinos are as bad, they'll have empty shells once the people wise up.

This won't be good for the casino.

WV needs to recover lost revenue this will cause. We need to do what Colorado and Washington did.

I'll reference the Capitol Music Hall in Wheeling when thinking of this situation. In the entertainment business, location is everything. The Capitol Music Hall in Wheeling is a legendary venue that has seen the biggest of the big performers over the years, and was for many years home to the WWVA Jamboree, at the time #2 to Nashville as a country music performance venue. At one time, it was owned by Coca Cola.

Well, Coke got the idea that they could get even better results if they were to build an outdoor venue for concerts, and they built one called the Star Lake Amphitheater between Weirton and Pittsburgh. Their idea worked like a charm. Problem is, the Capitol Music Hall's clientelle mostly came from the Northeast and Canada. The Amphitheater essentially cut them off at the pass, and the Music Hall faded into history, losing the Jamboree and many other performances. The storied radion station, that once was listened to by truckers all along the Atlantic Seaboard, even stopped using country music and became a talk show meaningless station.

Although the Capitol Music Hall has since been remodeled and is in use again, the Jamboree never returned and the legendary radio station still sucks as a talk show offering. Putting a new casino venue closer to large population centers is bound to hurt. The Charles Town venue will have to work on some sort of unique presentation to make it stand out from the competition.
