A vehicle for great change lies in a public relations program begun by former governor, Bob Wise.
I know that certain political programs eventually end with NON-FUNDING and that is being tested in this program. I was also laughing at Mike Ca**** last week when he said money for the Promise Scholarship program came from gambling and if the gambling was stiffled, then the Promise Scholarship program would suffer. WELL it does suffer...funding for it was cut in the last session... This free eduation is a reward to students with a high school GPA of 'B' or better. It is FREE but it does not pay for fees and indirect or hidden educational taxes that go directly to the state. Those amount to about $1200 per semester. In reality, its a tuition wavier. Still, IT above all programs, has the potential to make, help and set a bright new path for West Virginia and our new citizens in its future. Would we want anything more than an educated populace? I had a great opportunity to hire as an intern this summer, a participant in this program. A straight 'A' student in her 2nd year at WVU. Brilliant, very competent and ahead of the curve. If she is any indication of this programs grantees, we are in very good hands and our future will be fine. I hope our company will be able to afford her when she graduates. Any of you have any pro or con experiences with 'Promise Sholarship'? |

The timing of it is what pissed me off. If I was born three months later I'd be, like, $15,000 less in debt.....damn class of '02 and beyond....

If there is ONE issue in this state that I will bend over the heads of our political servants, it is this one.
Pharmacy degree? When you pay off the note...you'll be searching for a comparable deduction. If you can stay out of debt, you will realize the ultimate freedom. good luck. |

I was a sophomore in college when they started the Promise Scholarship, so as a result, I lost my WV Higher Education Grant. Thanks a lot!
