Google Maps says Little Washington to the Oakland (Pitt, CMU) section of Pittsburgh at 45 minutes, and about 35 minutes to Wheeling. I'd say that's pretty reasonable to both destinations.

I'm assuming that is without morning and afternoon traffic though.

There is no way to give accurate drive time if you go through those tunnels daily. Every day is a new adventure. That will get very old, very fast. JMHO

That was in the Pittsburgh forums and I replied to your post there. I thought you said the airport area though..eastern PA and the airport area are 2 different things when it comes to commuting. It shouldn't take anyone an hour to get to central Pittsburgh from Washington, PA unless you leave at the worst possible time like 7:30AMish and try to go through the tunnels.

Going through the tunnels is the major holdup. My ex wife worked at UPMC and commuted from Wheeling. Her shift started at 7am and she had no problems getting there in an hour arriving at the tunnels at 6:40am. Going the other direction was more problematic after 3pm though, but once through the tunnels it is pretty clear sailing.

Depends on what part of Washington, and what part of Wheeling you are talking about. From the Chestnut Street exit in Washington to the Elm Grove exit in Wheeling is about 22 minutes. If you're talking the Meadowlands exit off I-79 that takes longer. Also, time of day has a whole lot to do with it. Pittsburgh is (certainly by West Virginia standards) a large city, and travel to and from there avoiding rush hour traffic makes all the difference. Northern Washington to the Liberty Ave. exit from the Parkway West should take no longer than 35 minutes except morning rush hour.
