Beckley has a lot of shopping, restaurants, and nice scenery. Summerville is also very beautiful. I'd avoid McDowell County. Lots of poverty and, unfortunately, I've heard bad drug problems.

I agree with the people who said Summersville. I've been plenty of times and I find it to be the best area in the state.
I grew up in Logan and I wouldn't recommend it. If it wasn't home, I wouldn't return.

I grew up outside of Beckley and liked it. Malls, shopping, interstate, hospitals. Summersville is very nice too though. Good luck

And taxes should be low in Summersville, since they run a 24/7 speed trap on US-19. Big surprise for those Florida visitors who learn that 45 means 45, and not a mile faster.

Summersville, oh what a sweet place to call home, where we plan to retire. You can get a nice house for under 100K, and a VERY nice house for over 100K. You must check it out.

Athens/Princeton, Lewisburg, Summersville are nice and have that small town feel.
Lots of traffic in Lewisburg, though, and they need better engineered intersections - it's tough coming off of I-64 Eastbound and trying to turn left onto 219 Northbound plus the small intersection in town at 60/219 can be a challenge if you're turning left there, too.
