Eastern Panhandle expected to outpace rest of state | The Herald-Dispatch

Not really a surprise for anyone familiar with the State of WV.

Yep, agree that it isn't that big of a surprise. I would speculate that when the new 9 is complete through Virginia that will help generate growth in Jefferson County.

Not a susprise at all. Monongalia, Berkeley, and Jefferson counties are in significant growth mode. No other parts of the state really compare with them in that regard.

Yeah it will be interesting to see what Martinsburg will look like in 20-30 years.

My guess would be that it will be the largest metro in the State if the current growth rate continues for that time period.

Agreed. I think that it will become the major city in that metro area, currently Hagerstown. That may be a stretch though.

Yeah, but Hagerstown has about 20,000 more than Martinsburg already and is still growing rapidly itself. But I do think that Berkeley County will catch up to Washington County, MD, in terms of population.

It will be a tossup between Berkeley and Monongalia. Berkeley currently has more people, but their growth rate is 1.5% per year while Mon County is anticipated to have a 2% growth rate per year. Both will grow substantially.

I gotta tell you --- As an outsider, I am glad I picked the area a few years back. I like the people, the history/frame of antiquity, nice steady growth, nice mix of rural/urban, close proximity to multiple large metro areas, etc.

Recently joined a Ghost hunting club, Berkeley County Historical Society, and Blacksmith Guild. Harpers Ferry, Berkeley Springs, Winchester, Antietam Creek are favorites so far. Many great places to visit close by.

Martinsburg isn't nearly as bad as some make it out. Already seeing/hearing about revitalization of downtown area.

My daughter and her family live there and they like it a lot. It's rapid growth make investment in real estate there a wise decision.
