Good towns between Morgantown and Pittsburgh?
My husband will be taking a job in Morgantown but we would like to live as close to Pittsburgh PA as possible without a terribly long commute for him. What towns would you suggest? Ideally about 45 minutes from Morgantown. We have a 7 month old and I will be working from home but would like convenient access to shops, grocery stores, etc. Could care less about nightlife. Thanks!

Morgantown itself is only like an hour away from Pittsburgh. So I guess move 15 minutes out of Pittsburgh? ha ha But why not just live in Morgantown with the rate of gas prices rising sporadically. There are some great areas to live in Morgantown and they are building a road off I-68 that will go directly to Pittsburgh which should cut down on the time it takes to get to Pittsburgh

Waynesburg and Washington PA are both along I-79, between Morgantown and Pittsburgh.

It's about an hour and a half from the south hills, which would be just a little too long for a commute.
What kind of town is Waynesburg?

I'm originally from Morgantown, and in my opinion, Waynesburg is pretty boring. There's not much to do there. If I were you, I'd look into Washington, PA. It's a very nice area with lots of shopping and dining. It's less than an hour from Morgantown and only about 40 minutes from Pittsburgh.
Here's a website to check out if you're interested: Washington County Chamber of Commerce
Hope this helps and best of luck!

Waynesburg is a small (~4,000) city/town in the SW Pennsylvania coal fields. It's the county seat of Greene County. There's a college there (Waynesburg University), and it's big enough to have some shopping, but it's definitely not a bright lights - big city atmosphere.
Washington is considerably bigger, at ~15,000 population. Big enough for a couple of malls, etc. It's at the crossroads of I-70 and I-79. It's closer to Pittsburgh than Waynesburg (and therefore further from Morgantown).
My recommendation would be to look at both, as well as around Morgantown itself, and evaluate your personal tradeoffs of commuting time & expense vs closeness to Pittsburgh.

Uniontown and don't look back...4 lane to Pittsburgh up the back way into Monroeville and Century 3 Mall...the old Kennywood, Oakland and The Pitt Campus with the Carnegie Institue and Museum. About 15 minutes to Morgantown via Cheat Lake and Glen-Mark Center. One of my favorite town (tawns) because of the eastern european heritage, food and ethnicity...They speak the Sauth-side Pittsburgh-ease there too...Uniontown will have all the new factories and manufacturing...already has brand new Penn State Campus and Carnegie-Mellon Campus...Huge Mall on the hill off Route 51.

Uniontown will be an easy commute to Morgantown, once West Virginia finishes that little 5 or 6 mile stretch by Cheat Lake. It's been "under construction" for what seems like a decade.

I knew you would agree Snorpus...Uniontown is a winner in everyway and without the hassel of I-79 traffic.
(Mt. Morris is still there on the other side, for the select few..just beause of Josie's Diner...Josie's my cousin) Have a great week.
Part of the Uniontown connector is opened now...Cheat Lake entrance onto I-68/270.

I'd second Uniontown. Nice little town...35 minutes from Morgantown, easy commute.
