Well if you love Skiing you have to check out Canaan and Timberline resorts.. Snowboarding, etc. Great cabins, condos, near or on the resorts. Canaan also has tubing which is very fun. I believe you will have a lot of fun visiting Canaan this winter.

CV is great anytime of year; check out www.VRBO.com for places to stay or the CV Resort. The resort is a little old, but we stay there and the price is right. We do not ski, but we LOVE CV anytime of year. LOTS of hiking, you must go to the Purple Fiddle in Thomas, just Google it. If you are looking for lots of night life, well this is not the place to go, but if you just want to kick back and enjoy nature, and ski CV is the place to be. Oh there is a pizza place in Davis that you MUST try as well. Very good, been there a long time, they do not take credit cards; I can’t think of the name of it just now. I will find it and post it later.

I think the pizza place is Sirianni's... they also have a great Greek salad.
For an upscale meal, try the Golden Anchor (about 3 or 4 miles south of Canaan Valley Resort State Park).

I live in FL and vacationed one Thanksgiving in CV; it was the best vacation ever! Such beauty and plenty of outdoorsy things to do. You have to love the snow and real Winter to be there in November! The cabin we stayed in was huge and faced a lake with the ski slopes in the background behind that. I will go there again and I hope you do.

You're in for a treat! This is a great area. If you're looking for a side trip, you might want to check out Deep Creek Lake, MD, too.

You are definately in for a treat. I went there with my ex-girlfriend a few years ago and despite the fact that the quality of the accomadations were a little lower than what I was expecting we had a real great time! I absolutely love WV, and CV really tops out the list of scenic areas!
Plus, its within a reasonable driving distance from DC, which is a plus! Route 55 is absolutely breathtaking.
