I just learned the other day while doing some research on relocating to the Weirton area that WV now charges a property tax annually on automobiles that has to be paid with your property taxes. I left WV back in the mid 70's and I sure don't remember that law? Can anyone confirm this and what should I expect to pay for this tax? Thanks, LSR
We have paid "car-tax" for as long as I can remember. It's one of our evil "hidden taxes" that nobody talks about then they discuss out "low" property tax. Most states only tax you once for a car.. when you purchase it. WV taxes you for the rest of your life on that same car! Add-up all the other hidden taxes we have and you could live just about anywhere in the US and pay the same taxes. Another example: Highest cell phone tax in the United States. Don't let em fool ya... it's not THAT cheap to live here.
WV had BOTH taxes until this year...The 6% 'Welcome Tax' was abolished...It's not very often that our esteemed legislature abolishes anything...it must have been the water in Charleston...I expect the Personal Property Tax will see a significant rate increase to offset this shortfall...that way the hacks at the capitol can increase their hidden part of the pie blame it on the county governments.
The jail/prison system is reaching a chaotic underfunding level and will be addressed in this session. A few dollars will be added to the general fund and everything will be normal....Normal is strangulation level.
This topic is a blog in itself.
OK, what kind of tax is there on a dog? I sure don't remember all these taxes back in the 70's but then again, I don't remember much about the 70's period, lol.
The $35 here is for tags, rabies shot & documentation. It's required if you reside within city limits.
