I am also considering making my next home in Parkersburg, are there some nice subdivisons with some recreational options, like swimming and tennis, near shopping and good schools???

I'd look around the Greenmont area in Vienna. It's where all of the local physicians/lawyers/engineer types live. There's a country club and a tennis club up there, too. But because it's Parkersburg, the homes there are pretty cheap compared to a larger market.

A little more:

This is the small tennis club they have. (broken link)

I noticed you want to be near shopping. The Grand Central Ave. strip in Vienna is basically the shopping hub for the entire region. You can find just about anything you'd expect to find in a large town in the area. It's about 10-15 minutes right down the main drag from the nicer areas.

The schools (Greenmont Elementary, Jackson Junior) are the best in the area going by test scores, but I think it's more genetics than teacher skill. When half of the kids in the room have parents working at St Joe's Hospital or DuPont and you compare them to the blue-collar kids across town, the scores will be skewed. For high school, the kids in Vienna go to Parkersburg High School. It is an excellent school, IMO. During my senior year back in 2001, 4 out of my 7 teachers were college professors, too. Many teach AP classes. I had over a semester of college credit completed before I graduated high school. HUGE athletics school, too. If your kids are into sports, there is no finer school in the state.

Let us know how it turns out for you.

THank you very much WVU...I need a good school for my child, she is not getting enough help at her current school...so this is good to hear! I will google the schools to find out more, and hopefully after my hubbys interview, we can start to search for a home! THANKS AGAIN!
