seems the state is a big fan of apple butter. here's a recipe from a native i found that looks mighty tasty
Apple Butter Bars
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup apple butter
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon apple pie spice
1 cup raisins
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons milk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan.
Beat butter or margarine until creamy. Add half of the flour, the brown sugar, white sugar, egg, apple butter, baking soda and the apple pie spice. Beat together until well blended. Beat in remaining flour and stir in raisins. Spread in prepared baking pan.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or till toothpick in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack. Drizzle with icing. Cut into bars.
To Make Icing: Mix 1 cup confectioners' sugar, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla and 1 - 2 tablespoons milk. Mix to drizzling consistency.

Getting back to ramps...
Harborlady, they tell me that if you go to a ramp festival, you have to partake out of self-defense. If you've been eating ramps too, you don't notice the smell of everyone else!
Pocahontas County has a "Road-Kill Cook Off", I forget what month that's in.

Knowing where you got that picture from, I have to post the link to the main page. Here's also another event that you hot doggers might like, the WV Hot Dog Festival in Huntington. And yes, being from Huntington I think Stewart's is the best and I DO NOT like cole slaw on my Hot Dog. Of course, I don't like cole slaw period though.

That was on an earlier thread about the Road-Kill Cook Off, it wasn't too long ago.
My Aunt owns Road Kill Cafe in Artemas PA.
Lone Star-great picture. I always remember as a kid getting chili dogs but I have never heard of the coleslaw. I will have to ask my mom about that one. Actually, we were in Mannington a few months ago and got some really good chili dogs, can't remember the name.

T & L Hotdogs..In Mannington..a local chain of about 10 stores...vary in quality from place to place.
Best in the Marion County area is Woodys on east side...Yann's are not really hotdogs, more like a blowtorch in a bun and Hometown is a good dog.
Mon County: Town Hill Grocery in Morgantown
Greene County, Pa: Josie's Diner in Mt. Morris
thanks Bailey for the link...

YIKES! I skerred muhself when I scrolled passed that hotdog- looked like a farm injury! :X lol
RAMP I believe has missed its marketing potential as an obnoxious relative and snob repellant. I look forward to partaking & y'all need to meet my aunt.
I didn't realize there was more than one road kill cafe- the one I went to was in sturgis SD. Nothing like a stack of flat cats & smear of squirel on the side to start the morning off right.

I was walking to work the other day and passed under a tree with a squirrel just a few feet above, and me without a gun. I could just hear my neighbors say "Another drug shooting!" "No, it's that damn West Virginian hunting squirrels again."

The best hot dogs I have ever eaten (and I have eaten a ton) in my 26 years of roaming this great nation of ours... is undoubtably Shorty's Hot Dogs in Washington, PA. I believe it's located on Chestnut Street downtown.
"undoubtably" did I spell that right? LOL.
