Crock pots retain moisture better, and make their own gravy by default. I think an experiment is in order! thanks for sharing.

Harbor Lady, I have never tried that recipe in a crock pot but... I don't see why it wouldn't work? You actually want the consistancy to be able to slice the steak roll with a knife after it's cooked. It kind of looks like those icecream cakes when you slice them? It looks good and the taste is out of this world! Thanks for the compliment, I do appreciate it!

Okay, all this talk about country cooking, I just finished making scallop chicken for dinner tomorrow. My mom used to make it because you could skimp on something if you didn't have it but could feed a lot of people. It consist of chicken, potatoes, eggs with a runny gravy over and bake it.
Now if anybody thinks I am making home made bread to go with they can.... ....well, you know.

Maybe that is why WV is one of the fattest state.
No, seriously we moved from AA county in Md about 4 months ago and there were so many overweight kids. I don't see that here when I go to my kids schools. The problem is good ole cooking but fast food. I tell you I don't know how people afford to eat that crap. You can go to a sit down restaurant for a few dollars more and get full. I eat fast food very, very often and whenever I do I am always hungry when I leave.

Today my office had a pot luck lunch and I ate brown beans and cornbread, fried pork chops and gravy, fried potatoes, and banana pudding with vanilla wafers. This was in Raleigh County, WV.

I spent over 25 years eating in greasy truckstops around the nation and you just can't beat the food. It always reminded me of West Virgina and a good home cooked meal.

Yes Ma'am. Twenty six years on the open road, two years teaching and a year & a half local before being forced to retire medically. I had a wonderful marriage and wouldn't trade a moment of it for all the gold in the world.
