What is everybodys opinion on Gov. Joe Manchin? Do you think he is doing a good job or bad and should he be reelected? I know my thoughts but I will wait to opinionate.

I think he is doing an amazing job! He is trying to bring our state out of the pitts of hell that most of our recent leaders sank us into!!! Joe's ok in my book!

The jury is still out with me. I'm trying to think of positive legislation...I'm still trying...

If the Dems get in and promise the horrible taxation on the rich that they promised, West Virginia will suffer. It will have a cyclic downturn in the economy.
I won't stay around for this one...I'll take my degree and move to Iowa.
When I see Mr. MoJo, I'll ask him what his alternate plan is for this proposed financal suffocation. I've watched it happen 3 times in my life and do not intend to weather those storms again.
If he is as 'pro-business' as he says, he must have a plan up that slick sleeve of his. We can't depend on Senator Byrd to do it all, but he has done it ALL. In a few days/months/years he will be gone. And if anything, the Dems will want to punish WV just a little for voting Rep...and electing SMC to the House...I think our state is changing back to the other party...get my drift...we're in trouble.

Removed priviledge tax - Good
Reduced Food Tax - Good
Raised Gasoline Tax - Bad
Centralized education - Bad

State is still centralized in regard to government control.
Right now, a 5.

I just don't trust dems. They are socialists. They want tax anybody who makes little bit more than others; they call it justice. They forgot real american principles- work harder, live better. Now there are more welfare recipients than working people in WV. Lazy guys come to the state because it's easy to get disability here.
CUT THE WELFARE! Stimulate people to GET A JOB.
GET TAX CUT FOR BUSINESS OWNERS! It will bring more jobs.
CUT taxes for middle and upper middle classes- it will retain educated workforce in the state.
Do not raise real estate taxes.
Does Manchin do any of this?
Ta-dah

I don't trust people that use the term "socialism" as something intrinsically negative. Taxes are taxes. They make our society go 'round. I got 12 years of education free thanks to the communist compulsory education system. Sometimes it's good to raise them, sometimes it's good to lower them. And progressive taxation is fair because it's a more accurate way to tax disposable income rather than raw income. Honestly, I trust the Dems more then the Repubs. Why? They are all rich *******s...but the dems are rich *******s who are willing to take a hunk out of their pie for what they perceive as the greater good. The repubs are rich *******s that want to keep all of their money. It's just a conflict of interest type of thing.

Nonetheless, WV is more or less the third world of the US economically...and I severely doubt the dems or republicans will ever successfully do anything to progress the state. Oh well. Pharmacists get paid the same no matter where they practice....in fact, more in WV because nobody wants to stay here with such a portable degree...and it keeps cost of living low. Plus, Medicaid pays better for claims. I actually think a crap economy benefits me personally....

As far as Manchin...I don't know...he could do worse...and he could do better.

I remember when consecutive WV governors (both Dems), Wally Barron and Hulett Smith, went to prison after their terms ended. So if Joe can keep his nose clean, he'll already be ahead of the game.

Where politicians of any party usually fail, in my book, is in not having a long term vision of where the state is going, and a plan to implement that vision. A realization that the problems we see didn't develop overnight, and won't be fixed overnight.

The future isn't in coal mining and chemical processing. It's in fiber-optics, nano-technology, robotics, information sciences. Have the state become a "lab" for providing high-speed internet access to rural areas (technologies like WiMax). Pay bonuses to new teachers in math and science to stay in the state. Heck, get Benedum or one of the other big foundations to fund putting a branch of Carnegie-Mellon's Robotics Institute in, say, Beckley, to find ways of making mining safer.

Where did you get your "free" education? If it was America you need to check your parent's property tax note.

As a Libertarian, I don't feel that neither the GOP (today's RINO's) or the Dem's are no different. Heck, look at old Jay R. Raised the states taxes while governor, doing the same as a Senator, and all the while made more millions off the coal commidity market while hyping UMW strikes for short periods of time to raise the prices for his pockets.

As for Manchin, well, again he is a 5 so far with me. I know old A. James (rest his soul) he was an old yellow dog FDR Democrat. I never agreed with his policies but A.James did seem like a nice down to earth fellow. So if the fruit does not fall to far from the tree, I doubt this Gov will follow Wally, Hulett, or Archie to the pokie.

I always talk about my home state with mixed emotions. Since I have lived now in Atlanta with Chicago and Philly before, I see what mega growth does to a location. Yes, jobs galore, but the cost of living, the crowds, traffic jams, and most of all dangerous crime levels, sometimes I think ole WV needs to stay the way it is. All one needs to do is look at Berkeley and Jefferson County to see that maybe WV's political system needs to remain as it always has. Who knows the correct answer.
